Color Me Roses

roses

Do you hear that? It’s the sound of wedding bells – Wedding bells everywhere. That’s right, we are entering the wedding season, so don’t be surprised if you see a distraught bride crying on the steps of a chapel every so often. In honor of this wonderful season of love, we will be taking the next few blog posts to write about different wedding flower options and why each type of flower is significant as it relates to weddings.

In this post, however, we will start by explaining the meaning of each rose color—a flower that has been used for centuries to a wide variety of messages from passion to jealousy.

IMG_1486__The red rose has long been a traditional symbol of love and romance, and the perfect way to say “I love you” to that special someone. The red rose can also convey feelings of courage, passion, respect, beauty, perfection, and even to congratulate on a job well done. A single red rose can mean “I Still Love You” or to dote over your love at first sight while a dozen roses demands Be Mine! Either way, red roses are a perfect way to express your love!

The white rose is most often used as a symbol of marriage and new beginnings, but has also been used as an ode to remembrance and spirituality. The purest of colors, the white rose, stands for purity and innocence, often expressing happiness, love and charm. Giving a single white rose will denote peace and purity.

DSCN3546The pink rose is a multifaceted flower in that it can be used as a symbol of numerous messages, including joy, sweetness, grace, happiness and love. In fact, depending on the shade of the pink, can determine even further the message you want to get across. If you want to declare gentleness and admiration, light pink roses would be the perfect choice. To your first love, you present a bouquet of medium shade pink roses. This shade of pink can also be used to cheer up a friend who’s not feeling well or grieving or to congratulate someone on a job well done. If you want to say “Thank You” or express your appreciation or gratitude, you’ll want choose a dark pink rose. If you’re looking for an elegant way to state your sincerest gratitude, do so with a single pink rose.

Tell your friends how much you care and the joy they bring you by brightening up their day with yellow roses. These cheerful roses can express thanks and good health, gladness, delight and make the perfect “Get Well”, “Welcome Back” or “Remember Me” gifts. However, beware of sending that single yellow rose as it has two meanings. While a single rose can express happiness and love, it can also signify jealous – so, don’t forget to include a note with your rose.

IMG_0120The orange rose is the rarest color of the bunch. The orange rose is full of energy and enthusiasm and can be used to send a variety of messages, including passion, desire and gratitude. Show your excitement of your romantic relationship with your loved one by giving them these radiant roses. A single one of these roses can convey the message of gratitude and simplicity.

The rose colors most traditionally seen at weddings are white and red, but don’t let that limit your own personal selection. Roses are a classic way to celebrate the love and joy that accompanies a wedding no matter what color they are.
