Mother’s Day Plant Gift Guide

Mother’s day is right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate your mom than a gift that will keep on giving! There is no wrong choice when selecting from our Mother’s Day Plant Gifts. The Perfect Plants team has hand-picked 4 of our most popular plants that are perfect for your mom on her special day.

Peach Drift Rose Tree

Our top choice this Mother’s day is the Peach Drift Rose Tree. Carefully pruned to resemble a tree, this plant is a must-have for rose enthusiasts. The Peach Drift Rose blooms in a range of warm colors including orange, pink and yellow. They will re-bloom all year, if deadheaded regularly, starting in spring until late fall. As a double petaled flower with dark green foliage, these blooms are sure to turn heads.  The Drift Patio Rose Tree comes in a 3 gallon container, making it easy to transplant into your pot of choice. As a dwarf specimen, these Rose Trees will grow to a mature height of 3-4 feet and a width of 3 feet, making them an excellent full sun porch or patio plant. We recommend growing this tree in USDA hardiness zones 5-10 for best flower production. This rose cultivar is cold hardy, disease resistant, and can even tolerate a wide range of soil conditions. If growing as a container plant, well draining soil will keep your tree thriving all year long. Annual pruning is essential to keep this rose tree in top condition.

Golden Pothos

Golden Pothos Available in Hanging Basket If your mom is more into houseplants, the Golden Pothos is a great choice! With its heart-shaped leaves and striking variegation, the pothos plant will remind your mom every day of how much you love her. These houseplants are also impossible to kill, for plant enthusiasts and beginners with little spare time. Hang your pothos in your bedroom, bathroom, and really any room, to add an accent of cascading green.  The Golden Pothos is the ideal plant for beginners, as they have low light requirements and only need to be watered every 2 weeks. We recommend 4 hours of indirect light to keep this houseplant prolific. If your pothos has stunted in growth, apply some root boosting slow release fertilizer once a year. As your pothos grows, you can prune off stems heavily for the desired shape. You can even propagate new plants from your trimmings by placing them in a jar of water. Change the water regularly and watch your clipping sprout roots!

Pothos plants are toxic when ingested, so keep them out of reach from small children and pets.

Azalea Shrubs

Here at Perfect Plants, we love our azaleas! Azaleas come in all shapes and sizes and each has its own unique growth patterns. With brightly-colored blooms, and a vast array of colors, Azaleas are one of our most popular flowering plants. We carry 5 different Azalea varieties, including the G.G. Gerbing, Formosa, Red Ruffles, George Taber, and the Autumn Encore series. There is an Azalea for everyone, and we’re here to help you find the right fit for your mom this Mother’s day!

Red Ruffles Azalea Known for their long blooming time, Azaleas are a good choice for the gardener wanting a focal point in their front or backyard. Before planting your Azalea, thoroughly loosen the root ball to encourage new growth. Azaleas do best in well-draining acidic soil. You should water regularly the first year after transplanting, to help the plant establish itself. This will pay off when you see its striking flowers! Like most shrubs, you can prune the Azalea during the winter to the desired shape.

G.G. Gerbing Azalea For evergreen azaleas, choose a spot in your landscape with partial shade. Deciduous azaleas have stronger and more abundant blooms in full sun, but will still thrive in shady areas. The hotter your summer is, the more shade and water your Azalea will need. Full shade is not recommended for these flowering plants, unless in tropical climates (USDA Growing Zones 10-11).

Peach Trees

This Mother’s Day, you cannot go wrong with a Peach Tree. We take great pride in our fruit trees and have a vast collection to show for it. Not only are most of our peach trees self-pollinating, but they will also wow you with their clustered blooms for years to come. Our peach trees already have peaches, and we’re so excited to share them with you and your mom this season. To encourage bountiful harvests, we recommend planting another peach cultivar with similar flowering patterns. Check out our Peach Tree Planting Guide to select the perfect peach for your landscape.  Our peach trees are 5-6 feet in height, making them easy to transplant into your new or established orchard. Once established, Peach Trees can grow up to 12-20 feet tall and can provide shade for smaller plants in your mom’s garden.  Most of our peach varieties can be grown in USDA growing zones 5-9 and require at least 5-6 hours of full sun a day for maximum production. The peach tree blooms will ring in spring, followed by little peaches.  These trees are deciduous, meaning they will lose their leaves during late fall and winter.
