Product Description
The Climax blueberry has it all—early season ripening, exceptional performance in hot and humid climates, showy fall color and is generally low maintenance.
Blueberries are your go-to superfood due to their high levels of antioxidants. The healing powers of blueberries are widely known. You just can’t beat the flavor of blueberries picked fresh off a plant you grew. Kids love them too!
With the Rabbiteye Climax Blueberry Bush being a heavy berry producer, you will easily grow enough berries to make muffins, smoothies, cakes, bread, pies, or even add them to your morning oatmeal or cereal. Blueberries are also easy to freeze, providing off-season enjoyment as well.
The bloom time for these blueberries is in the early spring growing season. The blue berries of the climax blueberry plant have an exceptionally sweet flavor.
Grow blueberries in the ground with plenty of organic matter, in raised beds or containers, or in your home garden!
The advantage of buying our potted blueberry bushes is their well-developed root systems and branch structure that will have them quickly thriving and producing fruit in your yard. All blueberries require cross-pollination to produce fruit. Not getting any berries? Check out this blog on why your blueberry bush may not be producing.
Climax Blueberry Plant Care
Blueberries prefer full sun for best fruit production and even moisture. Around 450 chill hours are needed for the ideal fruit set. Chill hours may vary depending on the blueberry variety.
The Climax Blueberry bush size is up to 15 feet tall and 10 feet wide in the right planting site. Most bushes are seen more compact especially if planted in rows like a blueberry farm. The plants will grow to the space you put them in.
Grows best across the United States in USDA hardiness zones 6-9. The Climax Blueberry plant is tolerant of hot, humid conditions and it’s medium sized berries tend to ripen in late May to early June.
Blueberries prefer acidic soil and a layer of organic mulch with things like pine bark or peat moss will help if planted in any type of clay soil. If you are unsure about the soil pH… do a soil test! Additionally, it may be a good idea to buy our Blueberry Potting Soil if your soil is not the best ideal blueberry growing condition.
You may need to prune your blueberries annually to maintain the desired size and shape. These are shallow rooted plants that do not take much maintenance to keep them thriving. Well drained soil is best to prevent root rot. If you are planting in a container, be sure to choose one with drainage holes.
We suggest purchasing three plants of at least two different varieties for ideal fruit production. Choosing varieties that fruit at different times in the season will extend your berry availability. Rabbiteye blueberries are a great choice for many southern states. Read more about the differences between blueberry bushes.
