A lesser known peach variety, but a delicious one nonetheless, the Crimson Princess Yellow Peach Tree is one you have got to try!
In early spring, light pink flowers are produced on the bare branches and eventually mature into the fruit we know and love. Producing medium to large sized peach fruit with an early June harvest date, the Crimson Princess Peach tree is perfect for backyard growers! The fruit is large in size, sweet, and mildly acidic in flavor. Mature peaches have mostly red skin with a firm yellow flesh that is thick but melting in texture.
This type of peach tree was developed in 2005 as a first generation cross using ‘Ruby Diamond’ nectarine as the selected seed parent and ‘Crimson Lady’ peach as the selected pollen parent. Being a clingstone peach variety, the melting flesh will cling to the rough pit of the fruit when ripe. Enjoy the peaches as eaten fresh off the tree when ripe, in desserts such as peach cobbler, or stored for a later date by canning and freezing.
Being a deciduous tree, it will lose its green leaves over fall and winter to prepare for dormancy. Plant this fruit tree in your yard where the spring flowers can be enjoyed near garden beds, as a street tree so all can pick a juicy peach (if you let them!), or in a backyard orchard to get a bounty of fresh peaches!
Yellow Cling Peach Tree Care
Grow this yellow cling peach tree across the United States in USDA zones 5-9. Peach trees prefer well draining soil that is slightly acidic and rich in nutrients. An annual application of slow release fertilizer is recommended for best fruit production.
Choose a planting spot with at least 6-8 hours of full sun. This bright yellow clingstone peach tree has a vigorous growth rate and can get up to 12-15 feet tall and wide at maturity. Water the tree thoroughly at planting to establish a strong root system. A thick 2 inch layer of mulch around the root zone will help to retain moisture.
Crimson Princess Peach is self fertile and very productive. With all peach tree varieties, having another pollinator nearby will help with cross pollination and increase fruit load. Worried about alternate bearing? Don’t fret! This variety of peach is a productive & regular bearing tree that produces peaches every single year.
