Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry Tree

Product Description

The Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry Tree is a lovely specimen to keep in your yard for fresh berries all year long!

Morus nigra’s, as it botanically named, flowers form in early spring to produce medium sized black berries continuously from early summer through fall. The long, sweet and juicy fruit has a short shelf life perfect for eating right off the tree or making jams, jellies, and wine. The juicy berries are about the size of a blackberry and taste deliciously similar!

Black mulberry fruit has many health benefits including immune boosting effects, chocked full of vitamin C, other vitamins, and antioxidants, and they can even improve your vision! Not only that, but the intense flavor of the fruit can leave you salivating for more.

Dwarf Mulberry bushes are self-fertile and you do not need another pollinator to cross pollinate and produce the berries. You can grow the plant as a multi stemmed bush or train it into a small tree. The Mulberry leaves are heart shaped and abundant on the branches during the active growing seasons. Being deciduous, the tree will lose its green leaves over winter to go into dormancy and prepare for fruit production.mul

Only a small space is required to produce full size berries with this dwarf tree. They are perfect for container growing or small spaces in your yard. Harvest the berries from May to July depending on your location and climate. You’ll have berries the first year of planting!

Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry Tree Care

Mulberry trees prefer well drained, fertile soil that is rich in nutrients. If your soil isn’t productive enough, you can amend the native soil in your landscape with our Fruit Tree Planting Mix. They are very forgiving and adaptable trees — can be grown in wet soil but are also drought tolerant during dry spells. Fertilize annually to provide the nutrients it needs to produce a bounty of berries. Most mulberry varieties are pest and disease resistant.

Where do Mulberry Trees Grow?

Plant mulberry trees across the United States in USDA zones 5-10. Full sun will make these plants happier but they can tolerate partial shade if needed. More fruit production will occur with more sun.

How to Grow Mulberry Trees

Growing mulberry trees is not hard and any gardener can accomplish this. The ornamental trees will basically grow on their own with ease without much care and maintenance. With adequate warmth and sunlight, the cycle will be continuous of flowering and fruiting.

How Fast do Mulberry Trees Grow?

The mulberry tree growth rate is up to 1 foot per year. The mature size can reach up to 6-10 ft tall and 6-8 ft wide. Adding fertilizer will help speed up the growth rate of these edible fruit trees. You can also keep these trees pruned to any size you would like.

How to Prune Mulberry Trees

The Dwarf Mulberry bush is very easy to prune! You can trim the mulberry bush to whatever desired size and shape you would like. It can even be kept at heights of 2-4 feet tall in containers. Pruning will also encourage the tree to continue producing ripe fruit throughout the year for a second crop. Berries are formed on new growth each year.

When to Prune Mulberry Trees

You can start pruning mulberry trees as soon as they are finished fruiting in summer. Any earlier and you may decrease fruit load by cutting off any flowers or young black fruit. Pruning can depend on what your landscape goal is with this tree. You may want to keep it small and maintained in a container for easy picking or you may want to let it grow to its largest size so you can pick as many berries as the tree will produce. Doing the latter will also provide shade in your garden and a place for birds to nest. Careful though, they may feast on the tasty mulberry fruit before you can get your hands on them.

The absolute best time to prune mulberries is in late winter while the tree is leafless and dormant. You will have the best visuals of the branch structure to make proper pruning cuts. Prune back any crossed or dead branches to encourage new growth.

Mulberry Tree Companion Plants

Dwarf Mulberries can do well with many other types of plants or fruiting plants. You can add it to your fruit tree orchard or plant alone by itself. Since it has such a small shape, it can fit into almost any home garden!

Shipping Info

Once your Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry Tree order is placed, we will ship your plant(s) within seven business days year round unless during the checkout process you request otherwise in the space provided to do so.

Perfect Plants’ shipping specialists carefully package your plants using a proven packaging method that ensures your plants arrive healthy, colorfully alive and ready to flourish. We’ve coined the term ‘upside down box test’ and we do just that; we carefully package so that regardless of the direction your box is handled, it will not harm your precious plant that’s inside.

upside down test

No shipping process is without a problem from time to time. On rare occasions some plants may experience some of the following during their transit: drooping, minor leaf-loss and/or minimal yellowing/discoloration, minor limb damage, etc. These instances are quite rare, but can happen when shipping plants in boxes.

Plants normally recover within a few weeks after planting. If a damaged box has injured your plant on the inside, please notify us within 5 days of receiving you package(s) by emailing us a photograph of the damage.

We always do our very best to ensure that your plants are packed and shipped in the safest, gentlest and most effective way possible.

Will my plants and trees look like the photographs?

Absolutely! Unlike other online nurseries, our photos are of actual plants and trees we’ve grown here, on our family operated nursery.

our story Lloyd nurseryGrowing our own plants and trees helps to ensure we ship you the best quality plants that are free of pests and diseases.

Your plants and trees may however not ship with flowers on them, like the photographs. This all depends on the time of year you buy your plant or tree. Crape Myrtle trees, for example, only bloom during the summer months, so if you purchase one during the spring or fall, they would ship without flowers. Once planted, your plants will grow and thrive giving you flowers for many years to come!

Pot Sizes

Pot sizes (commonly referred to in gallons) are shipped in the same size nursery trade pots which may vary in actual volume. Some plants may have been at the approximate pot size listed, but require excess dirt to be removed so that you will not be paying any additional shipping costs. This doesn’t happen very often though.

Choose a planting location that offers adequate sunlight and shade in a low traffic area. Allow proper clearance for the mature growth size. Well-drained soil is ideal. Water regularly for the first planted year to ensure adequate water is available for establishing a strong root system. Prune as necessary to remove any damaged or dead foliage and to promote a well-balanced structure.

Planting Instructions:

Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as your new plant’s root ball and deep enough so that the top of the root ball is equal with the ground level.

Loosen the root ball using a small garden spade or by hand. Breaking smaller outer roots can encourage growth into the new soil, but take care to not damage large primary roots.

Place the plant in the hole and ensure that it is situated evenly upright.  Use the excavated soil to fill in around the root ball, using your foot to pack it in firmly. Thoroughly soak with a hose as you fill in the dirt. Take great care to not leave any gaps or air spaces around the root ball as this could kill the plant.

A 2-4 inch layer of mulch is strongly recommended to help retain moisture and discourage weed growth. Apply mulch over the entire planting area but keep away from the stems or trunk by a few inches. Ensure that the plant and surrounding soil is completely soaked with water.

To ensure the proper nutrients are available for the life of your plant our proprietary Perfect Plants Special Blend Soil and a once yearly application of Nutricote Total 360 Fertilizer are great considerations for your new plants!
