With it being small and compact, the semi dwarf Gala Apple tree is perfect for small planting sites, fruit tree gardens, or even large containers. Your tree should start producing apples and bear fruit after 1-3 years. These great tasting apples are perfect for fresh eating right off the tree, baking apple pies, or stored on the counter or fridge for later use.

The dwarf Gala Apple tree size is up to 15-17 feet tall in tree height and 12-15 feet wide at full maturity. It is a self fertile apple tree but with other apple trees nearby to help cross pollinate it will provide greater yield and more fruit! The best varieties for cross pollination are Red Delicious or Granny Smith.
Gala Apple tree diseases may include apple scab, fire blight, or powdery mildew. The best way to avoid these issues is by establishing a regular watering schedule, applying a slow release fertilizer annually in early spring, and adding a thick 2 inch layer of mulch or organic matter at the base of the tree near the root system to help hold in moisture. Check out our blog on Apple Tree Diseases for more information.
You can prune your apple tree in winter or early spring to give the branches and fruit the best air circulation. You do not want the Gala trees limbs to be overcrowded so you can produce bushels of apples. Overcrowded trees may affect affect branches with fruit on them and promote fungal diseases or bacterial diseases discussed above. Eventually this will affect fruit you will have to remove the infected branches and treat with a fungicide. This is why it is so important to take pruning practices seriously starting when they are young trees.
