If your landscape is calling for a spreading mound and dense shrub that is low to the ground and essentially pest free, the ilex Helleri Holly shrub is the perfect fit!
This exceptionally low maintenance shrub is excellent for privacy hedges, low borders and mass plantings. This slow growing holly has a naturally rounded shape and a fine texture with dark green foliage. The oval leaves remain on the plant year round when taken care of properly.
This shrub is deer resistant and features dainty, springtime white flower blooms that will catch anyone’s eye. The Helleri Japanese Holly produces small black berries that are showy and add to its garden interest in the fall. It attracts many types of birds and other wildlife!
Helleri Holly Care
Grow this helleri shrub in part sun to partially shaded areas. It can handle full sun in the morning so be sure to pick the right planting spot. This Japanese holly is drought tolerant but be sure to water well the first year of planting to establish a strong root system.
The ilex crenata helleri can grow to be 3-4 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide at maturity. It is pretty slow growing but in time will take up space. Holly ilex crenata prefers moist, well drained soils that are acidic soils but other than that not too picky. The soil pH will help keep the dark green leaves small and glossy.
A great choice for any and all gardeners or landscapers alike! The Helleri Holly hedge is one of our favorites for compact, evergreen shrubs that are easy to grow. Prefers to be grown across the United States department of agriculture hardiness zones 6-9.
