If your landscape is calling for a spreading and dense shrub that is low to the ground and essentially pest free, the Helleri Holly is the perfect fit!
This exceptionally low maintenance shrub is excellent for hedges, low borders and mass plantings. This holly has a naturally rounded shape and a fine texture to its dark green foliage.
The Helleri Holly produces black berries that are showy and add to its garden interest in the fall. It attracts many types of birds! This shrub is deer resistant and features dainty, springtime white blooms that will catch anyone’s eye.
Grow this shrub in partial sun to partially shaded areas. It can handle full sun in the morning so be sure to pick the right planting spot. This Japanese holly is drought tolerant but be sure to water well the first year of planting to establish a strong root system.
The ilex crenata can grow to be 3-4 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide at maturity. It is a pretty slow grower but in time will take up space. Prefers acidic soils but other than that not too picky. The soil pH will help keep the dark green leaves thriving.
A great choice for any and all gardeners or landscapers alike! The Helleri Holly is one of our favorites for compact, evergreen shrubs that are easy to grow. Prefers to be grown across the United States in USDA growing zones 6-9.
