Hosta Elegans is an herbaceous perennial with large leaves and attractive summertime flowers.
Hosta sieboldiana ‘Elegans’ as it is botanically named has smokey blue leaves that emerge in early spring and eventually mature to a darker blueish green in late summer. The funnel shaped leaves are grown for the appealing looks and unique color it adds to the landscape.
Blue elegans hosta will flower in the early summer months to put on a gorgeous display. The flower blooms appear mostly white with a lavender tint in the middle in May through July. The flowers attract butterflies and bees into your landscape and have a slight fragrance.
Hostas are the perfect shade plant to have under larger shade trees or shady garden beds. They can also be used in borders or planted in containers.
Hosta Elegans Care
Grow this ornamental hosta across the United States in USDA growing zones 4-9. It is a more heat tolerant hosta variety than most others and can handle the warmer temperatures of the south.
Elegans Hosta plant prefers partial shade to full shade. Organically rich soil with consistent moisture is preferred by these low growing plants although they are tolerant to a variety of soil types. A consistent watering schedule is the key to keeping their foliage look green and vibrant.
The Hosta Elegans size is 2-3 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide at full maturity. It will grow in a spreading habit and grows wider than it is tall. Divide plants as need in fall and winter.
