Instructions and Preparing the Soil
At planting time, dig a hole the depth of your plant and twice as wide as your plant. Mix your dug up existing soil with the amended soil mixture for roses and use this mixture to fill back in around the root ball of your plant. Pack the soil in firmly at ground level ensuring no air holes remain and water thoroughly. See our How to Plant a Rose Bush for more information on planting roses.
You can also plant roses in pots or containers with good drainage. Roses require soil that drains to prevent root rot.
A layer of mulch or organic materials will help retain moisture on your newly planted rose bushes. This is the perfect mix to amend loamy soils, sandy soils, or soil without proper nutrients.
This proper soil for roses will help protect against pests and diseases such as leaf mold and powdery mildew.
