The Scarlet Beauty Plum tree lives up to its name with its lush red-fleshed fruit and delicious flavor!
Developed by plant breeder Ronald Lambert of Wachula, FL, this cultivar is a low-chill Japanese-style plum tree that makes an excellent fruit cultivar for even south Florida. Grows mostly in southern states. Best grown in USDA plant hardiness zones 7-10. Cannot handle freezing temperatures and high chill hours of the northern states.
Scarlet Beauty’s plums fruit are medium sized with red-streaked amber flesh and ripen in May. This cultivar requires a low chill time of 150 hours to produce fruit. The Scarlet Beauty Plum Tree is also self-pollinating but does very well with a pollinator such as ‘Gulf Ruby,’ ‘Gulf Blaze,’ or ‘Gulf Gold;’ and does exceptionally well in warmer climates.
Be sure to space these trees at least 12-15 feet apart. Prefers full sun and well draining soil. Be sure to keep it watered for the first year to establish a good root system. The Scarlet plum is a great low maintenance fruit tree for orchardists and backyard enthusiasts alike. You cannot go wrong with the Scarlet Plum tree!
