The Scarlet Beauty Plum tree lives up to its name with its lush red-fleshed fruit and delicious flavor!
Developed by plant breeder Ronald Lambert of Wachula, FL, this cultivar is a low-chill Japanese-style plum tree that makes an excellent fruit cultivar for even south Florida. Grows mostly in southern states. Best grown across the United States in USDA plant hardiness zones 7-10. Cannot handle freezing temperatures and high chill hours of the northern states.
Scarlet Beauty’s plums fruit are medium sized with red-streaked amber flesh and ripen in May. This cultivar requires a low chill time of 150 hours to produce fruit.
The Scarlet Beauty Red Plum Tree is also self-pollinating but does very well with a pollinator such as ‘Gulf Ruby,’ ‘Gulf Blaze,’ or ‘Gulf Gold;’ and does exceptionally well in warmer climates.
Japanese Plum Tree Care
Be sure to space these trees at least 12-15 feet apart. This plum fruit tree can grow up to 10 feet tall and 5-10 feet wide giving it a small compact space.
Grows best across the United States in USDA growing zones 7-10. The Beauty Plum prefers full sun and well draining soil. Keep it watered for the first year to establish a good root system.
