Stella de Oro Daylily Shrub

Bright Yellow Flowers All Summer Long!

The delicate yellow gold petals of this sweet bloom emerge in the springtime like a cheerful ‘hello’ after a long winter! What better way to ring in the spring than with a burst of sunshiny color? The Stella de Oro Daylily shrub can do that!

The Hemerocallis Stella daylily starts blooming longer than any of its other daylily kin in the genus hemerocallis. Its late spring golden yellow blooms continue throughout the early summer and even into early fall and attract butterflies to your garden.

This day lily is excellent for naturalizing or planting in large masses or dense clumps for ground covers. The golden yellow flowers are trumpet shaped and should be pruned or deadheaded once the spent flower wilts.

Stella d Oro Daylily Care

The Daylily Stella de’ Oro thrives best in moist well drained soil and hot full sun. It can tolerate part shade and a wide range of soil sites. Be sure not to over fertilize this herbaceous perennial plant during the blooming period on the soil surface! Can grow up to 2 feet tall and 12 inches wide or more at full size.

Grows well in most of the United States. The best USDA plant hardiness zones are 4-9. The growing season for the continued blooms depends on your zone but can bloom for long periods. The daylily stella d’oro is a great choice when you are looking for a pop of color with ground cover features.

You may be asking how to care for Stella d Oro Daylily. This reblooming daylily is easy to grow and the biggest benefit of removing the spent flower stalks is so more can appear. Daylilies are very drought tolerant once established.

It can benefit from adding a slow release fertilizer in early spring to improve seed pod production and help protect against daylily rust. The Stella d Oro flowers will act in a spreading nature when the oro blooms drop the seed pods to the ground.

Shipping Info

Once your Stella de Oro Daylily Shrub order is placed, we will ship your plant(s) within seven business days year round unless during the checkout process you request otherwise in the space provided to do so.

Perfect Plants’ shipping specialists carefully package your plants using a proven packaging method that ensures your plants arrive healthy, colorfully alive and ready to flourish. We’ve coined the term ‘upside down box test’ and we do just that; we carefully package so that regardless of the direction your box is handled, it will not harm your precious plant that’s inside.

upside down test

No shipping process is without a problem from time to time. On rare occasions some plants may experience some of the following during their transit: drooping, minor leaf-loss and/or minimal yellowing/discoloration, minor limb damage, etc. These instances are quite rare, but can happen when shipping plants in boxes.

Plants normally recover within a few weeks after planting. If a damaged box has injured your plant on the inside, please notify us within 5 days of receiving you package(s) by emailing us a photograph of the damage.

We always do our very best to ensure that your plants are packed and shipped in the safest, gentlest and most effective way possible.

Will my plants and trees look like the photographs?

Absolutely! Unlike other online nurseries, our photos are of actual plants and trees we’ve grown here, on our family operated nursery.

our story Lloyd nurseryGrowing our own plants and trees helps to ensure we ship you the best quality plants that are free of pests and diseases.

Your plants and trees may however not ship with flowers on them, like the photographs. This all depends on the time of year you buy your plant or tree. Crape Myrtle trees, for example, only bloom during the summer months, so if you purchase one during the spring or fall, they would ship without flowers. Once planted, your plants will grow and thrive giving you flowers for many years to come!

Pot Sizes

Pot sizes (commonly referred to in gallons) are shipped in the same size nursery trade pots which may vary in actual volume. Some plants may have been at the approximate pot size listed, but require excess dirt to be removed so that you will not be paying any additional shipping costs. This doesn’t happen very often though.

Shipping Fees

Our shipping charges are based on the value of your order.  Please use the chart below to see what your shipping charge will be.

The Stella de’Oro Daylily likes full sun to partial shade except in Southern climates where afternoon shade will be best to avoid heat stress. Soil should be organic and well-drained.

When planting multiples, their centers should be spaced 1 to 3 feet apart. Spent flowers should be removed daily and all flower stalks should be removed after the flowering season. Although drought tolerant once established, consistent light moisture is best for flower production.

Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as your new plant’s root ball and deep enough so that the top of the root ball is equal with the ground level.

Loosen the root ball using a small garden spade or by hand. Breaking smaller outer roots can encourage growth into the new soil, but take care to not damage large primary roots.

Place the plant in the hole and ensure that it is situated evenly upright. Use the excavated soil to fill in around the root ball, using your foot to pack it in firmly. Thoroughly soak with a hose as you fill in the dirt. Take great care to not leave any gaps or air spaces around the root ball as this could kill the plant.

A 2-4 inch layer of mulch is strongly recommended to help retain moisture and discourage weed growth. Apply mulch over the entire planting area but keep away from the stems or trunk by a few inches. Ensure that the plant and surrounding soil is completely soaked with water.

To ensure the proper nutrients are available for the life of your Stella de’Oro Daylily, our proprietary Perfect Plants Special Blend Soil and a once yearly application of Nutricote Total 360 Fertilizer are great considerations for your new plants!

Looked pretty sad when I opened the box. Lots of dead leaves and most of the flower stems had dried up. I planted it and am hoping it’ll revive.

Hi Chelsea, thank you for the feedback. I believe your daylily will bounce back with full recovery. The plants don’t love being in a box for the shipment period. You can prune off any damaged leaves or flowers and it will encourage new growth and blooms. Keep us posted on the status of your Stella de Oro Daylily. We will be happy to fix the experience for you.

They arrived well packaged with a good appearance. On planting in pots they have had some browning of leaves. Both plants have had one small flower and a few buds.

Hi Marcia, we thank you for your honest feedback. The Stella de Oro Daylily leaves are pretty fragile when in the box but they are hardy and the plant should bounce right back with plenty of water and sunshine. We do recommend pruning off any brown leaves to encourage new growth. Please contact us with any questions you may have. Thank you
