Dwarf Loropetalum Puts Off Hot Pink Blooms in Early Spring!

The Ruby Loropetalum shrub, also known as Chinese Fringe Flower shrub, makes for a delightfully bright addition to any landscape. Its beautiful hot pink flowers and ruby red purple foliage deliver lasting color in a compact bush.

The eye catching clusters of rich pink fringe flower blooms will appear in early spring. The deep purple colored leaves of this evergreen shrub will provide color all year round. Dark burgundy foliage is a beautiful sight in any landscape!

Plant this colorful flowering shrub as a foundation planting accents to your home, mass plantings, or as a statement piece in your landscape. It will be sure to bring some looks as a loropetalum shrub border too with its reddish purple leaves. You can even keep loropetalum in a container if you desire.

The ruby loropetalum chinense’s mass of fringe-like blossoms is softly fragrant, showy, and will bloom continuously over several months. This loropetalum plant is low maintenance, drought tolerant, and deer resistant. It is also resistant to pests and diseases.

Its bright pink blossoms in the spring and shiny ruby and green foliage make it a great choice for many landscapes. Some call it the Chinese witch hazel plant because it is native to China, Japan, and Asia and is in the witch hazel family

RUBY LOROPETALUM CARE

Ruby Loropetalum plant prefers full sun to partial shade. The dark purple colorful foliage demands that the root systems stay in well drained soil types. It likes the soil moist but does not like wet feet or the shrub will contract root rot and potentially die. Slightly acidic soils are okay too. A thick 2 inch layer of mulch or organic matter applied around the root zone will help retain moisture during the hotter months.

This low maintenance, lush purple shrub has become quite the staple in Southern yards! It is easy to grow in USDA growing zones 7-11. Planting loropetalum in the spring growing season is best for optimum growth. You can apply a slow release fertilizer annually in early spring to stimulate flower production and keep your loro ruby bush looking healthy.

Not as large as its sister – Zhuzhou Loropetalum. The Ruby Loropetalum size can grow up to 3-5 feet tall and 3-5 feet wide at mature height and is considered semi dwarf with a round growth habit. The Ruby Loropetalum growth rate is slow, only up to 6 inches-12 inches per year.

You can prune this shrub into a small tree if desired. Loropetalum bushes tolerate heavy pruning and bounce back with intense vigor. Always be sure to prune off any dead or diseased branches if your loropetalum looks bad.

Shipping information

Once your Loropetalum Ruby Chinese Fringe Flower Shrub order is placed, we will ship your plant(s) within seven business days year round unless during the checkout process you request otherwise in the space provided to do so.

Perfect Plants’ shipping specialists carefully package your plants using a proven packaging method that ensures your plants arrive healthy, colorfully alive and ready to flourish. We’ve coined the term ‘upside down box test’ and we do just that; we carefully package so that regardless of the direction your box is handled, it will not harm your precious plant that’s inside.

No shipping process is without a problem from time to time. On rare occasions some plants may experience some of the following during their transit: drooping, minor leaf-loss and/or minimal yellowing/discoloration, minor limb damage, etc. These instances are quite rare, but can happen when shipping plants in boxes.

Plants normally recover within a few weeks after planting. If a damaged box has injured your plant on the inside, please notify us within 5 days of receiving you package(s) by emailing us a photograph of the damage.

We always do our very best to ensure that your plants are packed and shipped in the safest, gentlest and most effective way possible.

Will my plants and trees look like the photographs?

Absolutely! Unlike other online nurseries, our photos are of actual plants and trees we’ve grown here, on our family operated nursery.

our story Lloyd nursery

Growing our own plants and trees helps to ensure we ship you the best quality plants that are free of pests and diseases.

Your plants and trees may however not ship with flowers on them, like the photographs. This all depends on the time of year you buy your plant or tree. Crape Myrtle trees, for example, only bloom during the summer months, so if you purchase one during the spring or fall, they would ship without flowers. Once planted, your plants will grow and thrive giving you flowers for many years to come!

Pot Sizes

Pot sizes (commonly referred to in gallons) are shipped in the same size nursery trade pots which may vary in actual volume. Some plants may have been at the approximate pot size listed, but require excess dirt to be removed so that you will not be paying any additional shipping costs. This doesn’t happen very often though.

Care

RUBY LOROPETALUM CARE:

The Ruby Loropetalum prefers full sun or partial shade and moist but well-drained soil. These fairly fast growing shrubs will keep a bushy shape naturally, but need regular pruning to maintain formal shape and promote fresh growth. Pruning just after flowering is recommended to avoid shearing off the following year’s flowers that develop quickly after the current blossoms fade. Avoid fall pruning as frost will damage the new growth.

The Loropetalum should be planted 3 to 4 feet apart to create a hedge row.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as your new plant’s root ball and deep enough so that the top of the root ball is equal with the ground level.

Loosen the root ball using a small garden spade or by hand. Breaking smaller outer roots can encourage growth into the new soil, but take care to not damage large primary roots.

Place the plant in the hole and ensure that it is situated evenly upright. Use the excavated soil to fill in around the root ball, using your foot to pack it in firmly. Thoroughly soak with a hose as you fill in the dirt. Take great care to not leave any gaps or air spaces around the root ball as this could kill the plant.

A 2-4 inch layer of mulch is strongly recommended to help retain moisture and discourage weed growth. Apply mulch over the entire planting area but keep away from the stems or trunk by a few inches. Ensure that the plant and surrounding soil is completely soaked with water.

To ensure the proper nutrients are available for the life of your Ruby Loropetalum, our proprietary Perfect Plants Special Blend Soil and a once yearly application of Nutricote Total 360 Fertilizer are great considerations for your new plants!

I do not understand why you are not shipping me the fertilizer I ordered over a month ago. You have not even created a shipping label. I informed you that I needed the fertilizer by this Thursday when we will be be planting the ruby loropetalum. You did a nice job in shipping the plants so why are you so inept with the fertilizer?

The best purchase in plants ever. The plants were very healthy and very well taken care of. They arrived in a box. I was a little sceptical, but they arrived in perfect condition. Will buy from Perfect Plants again.
