Purple Daydream® Brings Four-Season Color To Your Yard

If you are looking for something to break up that sea of green in your yard, the Purple Daydream® Loropetalum Shrub is the ticket. As an evergreen, despite its purple name, ‘Purple Daydream®’ provides deep color all year long.

Enjoy foliage colors of Byzantium and Tyrian purple, with blooms that are shades of darker pink. Unlike older varieties, this cultivar keeps its color on old and new growth, providing an in-depth purple experience.

Loropetalum Purple Daydream® is a dwarf Loropetalum variety and will maintain a small to medium size. It is excellent planted in groups as part of a landscape and looks polished and refined when planted in front of a dark green foliage backdrop. A line of Winter Gem boxwood behind these Loropetalums works beautifully to set off their unique foliage with contrast.

In the landscape, choose locations for these beauties that will provide distinction for their foliage. Planting them near lime green colored shrubs or white hydrangeas works well. Choose a complimentary mulch or ground cover plant to complete the effect.

Purple Daydream dwarf loropetalum will bloom heavily in spring and often produce a light re-bloom in the fall. A moderately fast grower but easy to maintain, you won’t have to wait years for your landscaping plans to begin looking their best.

Highly resistant to pests, both insect and four-legged. Deer will pass by Purple Daydream on their way to sample your neighbor’s hostas.

This dwarf Loropetalum Purple Daydream works great in containers. Its mounding shape and compact habit make it an easy addition to add color and design to your patio or porch planters.

Lining a walk, covering a slope, or making a grand purple statement in front of your home, Purple Daydream is the easy way to bring four-season color to your home.

Purple Daydream Loropetalum Care Information

Purple Daydream is hardy to USDA zones 7-10 and tolerates heat quite well. It will survive temps as low as 0℉. Plant in spring if you live in zone 7 to allow sufficient time for the plant to establish before the colder winter weather.

This compact Loropetalum grows best in full or partial sun. In general, the more sun, the better. Less sun may cause the foliage to shift from purple to green.

Purple Daydream Loropetalum will grow in most soils and is not particular about pH levels.

Water deeply for the first few weeks after planting, then as needed for the rest of the first growing season. Once established, they are moderately drought tolerant.

This Loropetalum will grow without supplemental fertilizing, but you can give it an annual feeding of a slow-release general-purpose fertilizer once per spring to encourage growth.

Purple Daydream Loropetalum Height And Width

Purple Daydream plants will be 2-3 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide. They may try to stretch a little taller but can be kept at the 2-3 foot range easily with light pruning.

‘Purple Daydream®’ should not need pruning beyond trimming an errant branch to maintain form. Conduct any necessary pruning in late spring or early summer after flowering is complete.
