Small Dwarf Shrub with Gorgeous Pink Flowers!
The Goldmound Spirea shrub is a wonderful, colorful addition to any landscape as a shrub or perennial border, or for brightening your container garden with its mounds of vibrant golden foliage!
This decadent deciduous shrub features vibrant yellow spring foliage with clusters of bright pink flowers. As the early summer progresses, the colors turn to a bright golden green that eventually turns to a rich, yellowish orange in fall before it loses its leaves.
This Golden Spirea bush is salt tolerant and can grow well in coastal areas near the ocean. The golden colorful foliage will stay until the first hints of frost begin. The compact mounded shape will provide any landscape needing shrubs the perfect one!
GOLDEN SPIREA CARE
This gold mound plant grows best in medium moisture, well-drained soils and in full sun. The Goldmound Spirea shrub will tolerate a wide range of soils including clay and can tolerate light shade. Remove faded spring flower clusters to encourage an additional flush of blooms.
This spirea gold mounded shrub can grow up to 2-3 feet tall and 4 feet wide. It can be grown across most of the United States in USDA plant hardiness zones 4-9. If you are looking for a compact shrub for mass planting this is a great choice! The goldmound plant has excellent cold hardiness. Plus, it’s deer resistant!
Fairly easily grown, the Japanese spirea should be pruned in late winter to early spring to encourage new growth in the spring growing season. Goldmound spirea pruning should be done annually because flowers appear on new wood.
An annual application of slow release fertilizer at the top of the root ball in early spring will encourage new leaf and flower growth.
The gold mound spirea bush will establish a strong root system after 1 year of planting. Our top choice for foundation plantings! The colorful bright yellow foliage of the spiraea japonica will grace your landscape until the double play gold hibernates for winter time.
