The Ichi ki Kei Jiro Oriental persimmon is a non-astringent persimmon variety that ripens earlier than most other persimmons. Non-astringent means they stay crisp like an apple, similar to the famous Fuyu Persimmon tree.

Beautiful Persimmon Tree

I was amazed by how well the tree was packaged in the cartoon box when it arrived. No single leave dropped off or damaged! And very well developed roots. One thing I regret is that I put it on the ground too early and it went through a pretty bad transplant shock. I live in Zone7a and the persimmon trees here don’t break dormancy and put on leaves till mid May. But the tree I ordered already has full sets of leaves on when it arrived in late April. Lesson learned. Now I can’t wait to see it growing and maybe bearing fruits in next 2-3 years!
