The Prunus persica Crimson Gulf is exceptionally vigorous and features beautifully pale pink blooms. The peach tree was developed by the Agricultural Research Service in cooperation with the University of Georgia and the University of Florida to provide growers living in lower-chill areas the opportunity to provide fresh, early-season peaches.
It developed in a joint breeding program to create the ‘Gulf’ series of peaches. The yellow flesh of these peaches is called ‘non-melting’ which gives the opportunity for the fruit to ripen on the tree. The skin stays firmer which in turn lets the peach sweeten longer and have better quality and storage life. These tree ripened peaches are clingstone.
