This Muscadine grape vine is a must-have among Southern home landscapes! The Southern Home Muscadine grape vine is a deciduous grape variety with attractive maple-like foliage that produces clusters of grapes perfect for wine or jam.

The deep purple black fruit are perfect for fresh eating fruit, excellent red wine, and fall color. The Muscadine vines can produce enough growth to cover an entire wall or arch over a walkway in a single year with only one vine. Perfect for any home garden!

The fruit will begin to ripen in September through October and is great for both canning, and enjoying freshly picked, wines, juice, or jelly. Fruit production begins after 1 year as these 2-year-old vines.

This Muscadine variety is special because it is a complex hydrid of Vitis rotundifolia, V. popenoei, V. munsoniana, and V. vinifera. The ornamental leaves have a cut leaf pattern that is unique to many other grapevine varieties.

Southern Home Muscadine Grape Vine Care

Grow muscadine grapes in the southeastern United States USDA plant hardiness zones 7-10. It is heat tolerant and performs best in humid climates. The mature size of the Southern Home grape is up to 8-12 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide. Perfect for growing over a trellis post with pressure treated wood.

This cultivar prefers well-drained, sandy, loamy soil and bright, direct sunlight. This vine cultivar will produce small, non-fragrant flowers and is pest and disease resistant.

Prune grape vines in late winter or early spring growing season. Pruning is best in the dormant season so a better view of the vines is visible. Fruit is produced on previous years new growth. Prune and trim back the vines so new fruiting spurs can produce southern grapes with high yields.

Although these vines are resistant to powdery mildew, the application of a slow release fertilizer when planting the vine will help to produce fruit on young vines. This is a self pollinating plant and does not require another to cross pollinate because it has both male and female flowering parts. It will help pollinate other female vines and fruit trees in the area.
