Low Chill Hours Make This Easy to Grow & Produce Sweet Pear Fruits
The Flordahome Pear Tree is the perfect tree to grow on the Gulf Coast! Bring some sweetness to your beach house for the ultimate tropical “pearadise”.
The evergreen tree will produce tiny white blossoms in early spring, followed by mature greenish-yellow pears that can be eaten straight off the tree. The Flordahome pear taste will awaken your senses with a slightly tart and sweet punch. These semi-hard pears are great for canning and will add a wonderful sweetness to any dessert.
The Flordahome pear harvest date is in late July to early August depending on your location in the United States. Plant this variety of pear in your landscape as a standalone tree, in groups of 2-3 for best cross-pollination, or in a backyard orchard to get a plethora of fruit for fresh eating!

This pear variety is sometimes called the Florida Pear tree because it only requires 150-250 chill hours to set fruit. This Pyrus cultivar can be planted in USDA growing zones 6-10. It loves warm winters! Water thoroughly during the first year of planting to establish a strong root system. At least 6-8 hours of full sun is required per day to produce a bountiful harvest.
These fruit trees recommend well-draining soil that is slightly acidic. That being said, it’s a very adaptable pear tree to add to your home garden even if you have wet soils like us Floridians. As long as the soil is well draining the tree will do just fine!
The Florida home pear tree will grow 15-20 feet tall in height and 12-15 feet in width. This tree grows at a moderate growth rate, about 13-24 inches per year. Plant the Flordahome Pear tree about 10-12 feet apart for best spacing. This hardy, vigorous tree will produce fruit once established for 4-7 years.
Flordahome Pear Pollination
The Flordahome pear is semi-self-fertile but will produce more fruit if planted in multiples for better cross-pollination. For best fruit production, pick other pear varieties that bloom at the same time as the Flordahome pear. Cross-pollination is essential for most pear trees in the Pyrus communis and Pyrus pyrifolia species to produce fruit. A good option for a cross-pollinator is the Hood Pear tree.
This common pear hybrid is disease resistant and does not ship bare root!
