Eucalyptus neglecta omeo gum tree is the perfect ornamental tree for any garden! With a fast growth rate and fragrant smell, this unique tree will turn heads to passersby. It makes the perfect focal point in your landscape! Native in Australia, the eucalyptus tree migrated to the USA for fiber production in 1959.
This species of Eucalyptus has much larger leaves than Silver Dollar Eucalyptus with the same blue-green foliage and brown exfoliating bark. The fragrant leaves will elongate after 10-15 years as they turn into adult leaves. The eucalyptus neglecta tree blooms inconspicuous flowers from November to January. Bees love these flowers when it is warm enough for them to collect the pollen.
The most cold hardy eucalyptus tree in the southern United States, the Omeo can grow in USDA plant hardiness zones 7-10. It can handle temperatures down to 0 °F and has been seen with root survival down to zone 5.
The Omeo eucalyptus prefers partial shade to full sun and well-draining soil. Eucalyptus cannot tolerate wet feet, waterlogged soils, or sandy soils. It is quick to establish and will grow fast; up to 30 feet tall in 10 years. At maturity, this tree can grow up to 60 feet tall and wide. You can even keep it as a small tree
