HARDY FALL MUM PLANTS VARIETY PACK

When you think of fall flowers to plant, many people think of garden mums or their longer name Chrysanthemums! Fall mum plants are a classic perennial to have in the ground or in containers that bring fall colors and joy to all who see them.

Planting Chrysanthemums & Chrysanthemum Care

If you are planting mums in fall, they like an area with lots of bright full sun but they can tolerate partial shade as well. Hardy mums can also be planted in early spring with plenty of time to establish strong root systems before the cold winter.

Repotting the mum plants as soon as you get it will ensure they keep growing healthy through the fall and winter growing seasons. Gently break apart the root ball to give the root systems the best chance at growing.

Mums like the heat which means they need a lot of water! Keep the potting soil consistently moist and make sure it is well draining soil. When repotting, give them a good dose of water until it runs through the bottom of the nursery pot. After that, water every other day during the bloom time.

These fall landscaping flowers are sometimes planted as annuals but can be kept as a perennial plant with proper care. Most garden mum plants are perennials through USDA plant hardiness zones 5-9. To prepare mums for winter, add a thick layer of 3 inches of mulch surrounding the root zone. Wait to prune old stems until spring.

Deadhead often as the blooms fade for long lasting blooms that keep for weeks on end. You can divide mums in the spring as the plants grow and after they outgrow their current planting spot.
