Everyone's Favorite Apple Variety Has Sweet Fruit & Easy Care

The Gala Apple tree is a long cherished apple variety that came about from crossing Kidd’s Orange Red Apple and Golden Delicious Apples. An easy-growing and carefree fruit tree, our semi-dwarf Gala apple trees are self-pollinating as an added bonus!

The homegrown apples are blush red with a striped variation. The fruit is deliciously sweet flavored with a crisp tart bite that can’t be replicated in grocery store bought apples. The Gala Apple tree is in bloom in the early spring with a mid-season harvest time during the month of October. The Gala apple tree flower color is white with green foliage.

With it being small and compact, the semi-dwarf Gala Apple tree is perfect for small planting sites, fruit tree gardens, or even large containers. Your tree should start producing apples and bear fruit after 1-3 years. These great tasting apples are perfect for fresh eating right off the tree, baking apple pies, or stored on the counter or fridge for later use.

What is a Fully Grown Gala Apple Tree Size?

The dwarf Gala Apple tree can grow 15 to 17 feet tall in tree height and 12 to 15 feet wide at full maturity. Semi-dwarf Gala apple trees tend to grow at a moderate rate, often increasing in height by about 1 or 2 feet each year. Regular sized Gala apple trees can mature up to 25 feet in height with a 25-foot spread when fully grown.

How Many Apples Will a Semi Dwarf Gala Apple Tree Produce?

Semi-dwarf Gala apple trees will produce up to two or three bushels of apples each year. Most of the apples will be ripe for picking from late summer into the late fall, so make sure to stock up for the year! Most semi-dwarf Galas will start to produce fruit after about 3 or 4 years of maturity.

How Much Space Does a Gala Apple Tree Need?

Plant your semi-dwarf Gala apple trees at least 15 feet away from other trees and buildings that may obstruct their growth. The Gala produces the best fruit in full sun and well-draining soil, so make sure that there isn’t anything blocking your tree.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR GALA APPLE TREE BOUGHT ONLINE

The Gala Apple tree hardiness zones are 5-9. It can grow in most regions of the United States. The chill hour requirement for the Gala is 500 hours. We have even heard success stories about this fruit tree growing in zone 4 and zone 10.

You can prune your apple tree in winter or early spring to give the branches and fruit the best air circulation. You do not want the Gala tree’s limbs to be overcrowded so you can produce bushels of apples. Overcrowded trees may affect branches with fruit on them and promote fungal diseases or bacterial diseases discussed above. Eventually, this will affect fruit you will have to remove the infected branches and treat them with a fungicide. This is why it is so important to take pruning practices seriously starting when they are young trees.

*These trees do not ship bare root. They are rooted in soil in their nursery container.

I assume it is not a problem but the box the tree was shipped in was too short and the top 6-8 inches was sticking out and rubbed the limb bare. It appears to be regrowing?
