The Red Fuji Apple Tree has ranked among one of the favorite American apple trees, and for good reason! Its deliciously juicy red apples are perfect for enjoying right off the tree and fresh eating. They are also delicious used in baking, cooking, and our all time personal favorite apple pie!
This cultivar produces large to medium sized apples that are firm and crunchy, and feature an aesthetic red-green skin. The red color can vary on apples depending on your planting location. The creamy white flesh of this tree’s fruit will delight the senses and is of extremely high quality.
The deciduous apple tree produces yellow green leaves that will fall to the ground in late fall or early winter. Once early spring hits, the tree’s leaves will flush out after the apple blooms appear. The leaves and fruit will be full on growing once late spring and early summer arrive.
The Fuji apple tree is exceptionally heat tolerant, making it an ideal apple cultivar for southern summers in the lower growing zones. The Fuji trees ripen in mid-September; fuji apple fruit are ready to pick later in the growing season. The apple bloom time is between mid to late spring. This popular apple tree bears fruit after 3 years of planting.
This apple tree variety requires 350-400 chill hours and a pollinizer. To ensure apple pollination be sure to pick pollination partners in the same flowering group as your variety. Meaning, the variety of apple trees flower at the same time, therefore, having highly compatible cross pollination.

The best Fuji apple pollinators are Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith apples. You can even use a flowering crab apple tree to pollinate fruiting varieties.
GROWING FUJI APPLE TREES in the Home Garden
This apple tree can thrive in a wide range of soil types but prefers well-drained soil. Plant the tree in full sunlight. Be sure to water well the first year of planting to establish a strong root system. This plant is exceptionally pest and disease resistant but once it starts producing fruit a slow release fertilizer will help. Fuji trees are especially resistant to apple scab.
The Fuji Apple Tree growth rate is moderately fast; growing 12-24 inches per year as young trees. A full size tree can reach up to 20 feet tall at maturity and 10-15 feet wide branch span. Grows best in USDA plant hardiness zones 5-9.
This is not a semi dwarf size apple tree. In full sun it can grow to be a very tall fruit tree. It will start producing apples at a very early age which is one of the reasons why it’s our favorite apple variety for home grown fruit! Enjoy the crisp sweet taste in no time!

The apple tree is growing great. I got exactly what I wanted. I bought a bare root tree before this and knew for my next purchase I wanted a rooted tree so it would not have transplant shock. Will be purchasing more next year.
