The Hino Crimson Azalea Will Steal the Show

The Hino Crimson Azalea shrub is a short shrub that will quickly become the centerpiece in your garden whether you intend it to be or not!

The Azalea Hino Crimson red plant has beautiful shiny green leaves, but you’ll barely be able to see them due to the fiery red flowers that cover the entire shrub. There will be times when the leaves peek out and complement the flowers, but when the plant is bushy and in full bloom, expect to see a lot of red.

The crimson red flowers will first appear in mid-spring and will flower until summer. The foliage will stay green throughout summer and turn shades of bronze and red in fall, staying interesting almost all year long.

This dazzling flowering shrub will look beautiful in containers, flower beds, borders along sidewalks, and rock gardens. Consider planting it in areas that don’t have much color in spring. This plant will surely take care of that with ease!

Azalea Hino Crimson Care

The Hino Crimson Azalea thrives in hardiness zones 5-9. It will need protection from frost in spring to protect the flowers. A frost will damage the flowers, and there won’t be as many if they’re exposed to cold temperatures. The plant can tolerate cold temperatures in zone 5; only the flowers need extra care when exposed to cold temperatures.

This Azalea grows best in partial shade. It appreciates afternoon shade in hot climates since too much direct sun can damage the plant. Since the plant is short and wide, it’s an excellent choice to plant under a tree or other taller plants.

Azaleas prefer moist soil and shouldn’t be allowed to dry out completely. You’ll need to water them more often during the hottest part of summer because the ground will dry out quicker.

The Hino Crimson red Azalea prefers humus acidic soil that drains well. It does like to stay moist but doesn’t allow the soil to stay soggy or form puddles. Azaleas have shallow roots, so be sure you don’t plant them too deep in the ground.

Once a year in spring, apply a layer of mulch to prevent weeds and keep the soil sufficiently moist. They likely won’t need any fertilizing.

Hino Crimson Azalea Size

The plant grows to be 2-3 feet tall and 3-5 feet wide. It’s a low-lying plant that works well when planted in front of taller plants. It makes a great container plant since it stays compact and can be pruned if it starts to grow too big for the container.

Pruning isn’t required, but you’ll thank yourself later if you do! Removing spent blooms will encourage the plant to grow even more flowers which will help you achieve the red carpet look the Hino Crimson Azalea is known for.

You can also wait until after flowering to trim the plant to encourage more blooms next year. Be sure to do it immediately after flowering, so you don’t risk removing next year’s flowers.
