THE PERFECT EASY-TO-CARE-FOR, LOWLIGHT PLANT

The ZZ Plant aka Zanzibar Plant is an extraordinary houseplant that can thrive indoors.

Some common names for this east African native plant are Zanzibar gem, ZZ plant, Zuzu plant, aroid palm, eternity plant, or emerald palm. The botanical name is Zamioculcas zamiifolia which is where it got the nickname ZZ.

This tropical perennial plant is commonly grown as a houseplant for its glossy green foliage and easy care. The ZZ Plant flower appears in late summer or early fall and is light yellow or bronze in color. The flower form is a spadix that is commonly found on all aroid plants. It is uncommon to see this houseplant flower indoors.

ZZ houseplant has been shown to reduce toxicity indoors and purify the air. There are many other ZZ Plant benefits including lower blood pressure, reduced stress, and boosting productivity.

Fun fact: Zanzibar Plant grows from an underground rhizome that resembles a potato.

ZZ PLANT CARE

If you are wondering how to care for the ZZ plant, don’t fret! Zanzibar Plant care is very easy. They can thrive indoors in areas with low light or high amounts of light and are not picky. Avoid direct sunlight.

This herbaceous houseplant usually grows to 2-3 feet tall but can be seen up to 5 feet at full maturity. It can be grown outdoors in USDA growing zone 10 and above. All other zones should grow this as an indoor houseplant.

ZZ Plant soil should be well draining in containers with a drainage hole. If you do not have a pot with holes then you can add gravel or marbles to the bottom to provide a placeholder for the extra water to drain into. Do not overwater your ZZ Plant.

Shop the ZZ Plant for sale. It is so easy to grow, even someone with a “black thumb” can grow this houseplant.

Disclaimer: ZZ plants can be toxic to children and pets if ingested.
