Plant Care Guide for the Autumn Carnation® Azalea

Autumn Carnation® Azalea prefers acidic, well drained soil that is rich in organic matter and retains moisture without staying wet. It grows best in partial sun, especially when it receives morning sunlight and some protection from intense afternoon heat. This variety performs well in USDA growing zones 7 through 10. A slow release fertilizer formulated for azaleas should be applied in early spring to support new growth and flowering, and again after the main spring bloom to replace nutrients and encourage additional bloom cycles.

  • Best time to plant? We always recommend spring and fall as the ideal times to plant Azaleas, as moderate temperatures allow roots to establish more easily.
