LONG WEEPING BRANCHES BRING TRANQUILITY & PRIVACY. THIS FAST GROWING TREE LOVES BEING PLANTED NEAR WATER!
This classic beauty, Weeping Willow Tree, has been around for ages and is guaranteed to add a graceful touch to your landscape with its long slender leaves. The light green drooping branches and timeless appearance of the Weeping Willow is known by all.
The Willow tree is known for its graceful and refined qualities, easily recognized by its open crown of ground-sweeping branches. Willow’s light green leaves appear above and a more grayish green beneath. They shine golden yellow in the sunlight. The green leaves will fall to the ground in late fall or winter.
This fast growing willow grows especially well near water and is one of the fastest growing shade trees with a growth rate of 8-10 feet a year. It can grow quickly to reach its mature height of 30 to 40 feet tall and 35 feet wide during a few growing seasons. The Weeping Willow growth rate makes it a great choice if you are looking for height fast.
The large ornamental tree will help dry up a spot in your yard or landscape that is constantly wet or collects water. Examples of such places are at the bottom of a hill, near septic tanks or septic systems, or near an area with underground water such as a pond or lake. It makes an excellent shade tree and focal point in your yard!
Planting a Weeping Willow Tree
We ship these fast growing trees rooted in a pot in soil. These are not bare root trees and are ready to plant in the ground. If you are when to plant a weeping willow, the best time is in early spring! Avoid planting in late summer or fall.
The green weeping Willow plant grows in most of the United States and adapts well in many soil conditions even drier soils. The agriculture plant hardiness growing zones are 4-9.
Dig a hole the size of the root ball and backfill it with soil. Only add fertilizer to the hole if in early spring. Mulch will help to retain moisture while it is growing. It needs at least 6-8 hours of sunlight each day. The deciduous tree’s leaves will turn yellow without it.
To plant a willow is very easy as it is easy to grow and keep thriving. Just ask us for help or check out our blog on How to Plant a Weeping Willow Tree.
Weeping Willow Tree Care
If you are not in an area with lots of water, be sure to water thoroughly the first year of planting to establish a strong root system. The shallow roots of the large tree are short lived and need lots of water to survive. The biggest cause of a small weeping tree plant dying is the lack of water the first year planted.
The Weeping Willow plant prefers moist soil types that are well draining and does best in full sun to partial shade. Applying a slow release fertilizer yearly at the top of the root ball will help with pests and diseases such as crown gall, gypsy moths, willow scab, and black canker. Generally, the tree grows beautifully without pests and tree diseases depending on location.
The pendulous branches of the Salix babylonica Weeping Willow tree for sale will capture the eyes of many passersby.

Perfect Plants’ shipping specialists carefully package your plants using a proven packaging method that ensures your plants arrive healthy, colorfully alive and ready to flourish. We’ve coined the term ‘upside down box test’ and we do just that; we carefully package so that regardless of the direction your box is handled, it will not harm your precious plant that’s inside.
No shipping process is without a problem from time to time. On rare occasions some plants may experience some of the following during their transit: drooping, minor leaf-loss and/or minimal yellowing/discoloration, minor limb damage, etc. These instances are quite rare, but can happen when shipping plants in boxes.
Plants normally recover within a few weeks after planting. If a damaged box has injured your plant on the inside, please notify us within 5 days of receiving you package(s) by emailing us a photograph of the damage.
We always do our very best to ensure that your plants are packed and shipped in the safest, gentlest and most effective way possible.
Will my plants and trees look like the photographs?
Absolutely! Unlike other online nurseries, our photos are of actual plants and trees we’ve grown here, on our family operated nursery.
Growing our own plants and trees helps to ensure we ship you the best quality plants that are free of pests and diseases.
Your plants and trees may however not ship with flowers on them, like the photographs. This all depends on the time of year you buy your plant or tree. Crape Myrtle trees, for example, only bloom during the summer months, so if you purchase one during the spring or fall, they would ship without flowers. Once planted, your plants will grow and thrive giving you flowers for many years to come!
Pot sizes (commonly referred to in gallons) are shipped in the same size nursery trade pots which may vary in actual volume. Some plants may have been at the approximate pot size listed, but require excess dirt to be removed so that you will not be paying any additional shipping costs. This doesn’t happen very often though.
Our shipping charges are based on the value of your order and the destination it is being shipped. Please see the chart on the Shipping Info page to get an exact amount. We frequently have a free shipping promotion to help you save!
WEEPING WILLOW CARE:
The Weeping Willow Tree can tolerate some partial shade but will do best in full, bright sun. They should be planted in moist but not soggy, loose and rich soil. Water should be given during dry spells until established. They have a sprawling, sometimes invasive root system and so a planting site away from structures (including sewer and underground pipe systems) should be selected.
Weeping Willows should be selectively pruned young to encourage a strong central leader and even branch growth. Once mature, their soft wood fronds or branches can touch the ground. These can be trimmed to permit ground clearance if desired. Low-lying branches and suckers should be removed.
Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as your new plant’s root ball and deep enough so that the top of the root ball is equal with the ground level.
Loosen the root ball using a small garden spade or by hand. Breaking smaller outer roots can encourage growth into the new soil, but take care to not damage large primary roots.
Place the plant in the hole and ensure that it is situated evenly upright. Use the excavated soil to fill in around the root ball, using your foot to pack it in firmly. Thoroughly soak with a hose as you fill in the dirt. Take great care to not leave any gaps or air spaces around the root ball as this could kill the plant.
A 2-4 inch layer of mulch is strongly recommended to help retain moisture and discourage weed growth. Apply mulch over the entire planting area but keep away from the stems or trunk by a few inches. Ensure that the plant and surrounding soil is completely soaked with water.
To ensure the proper nutrients are available for the life of your Weeping Willow, our proprietary Perfect Plants Special Blend Soil and a once yearly application of Nutricote Total 360 Fertilizer are great considerations for your new plants!

Had the tree delivered to upstate NY and it arrived safe and sound! Very happy
I purchased my 6 ft. Weeping Willow from Perfect Plants in the fall of 2018. We planted it in November and were afraid that the winter cold would **** it. We mulched the base of the tree quite heavily with leaves and mulch and crossed our fingers hoping for the best. The following spring was extremely wet and our tree absolutely flourished. The wet area that we planted it is now a much nicer area of the yard. The mosquitoes have all but disappeared. Our tree grew more than 5 feet in the first year and now 3 years later it is 20 feet tall and absolutely gorgeous! My Perfect Plants sells the highest quality of flowers and trees and take care when packaging them for shipping. I'm much more comfortable buying from them compared to my local nurseries. The planting instructions that accompany your plant are right on point and will help get things off on the right foot.
I purchased a weeping willow to plant at my dads burial site when we buried him last month. It was a last minute purchase and surprisingly the tree arrived on time and in great condition! I just went to check on it yesterday hoping it survived the tropical storm from hurricane Zeta. She is standing tall and strong, may have even grown a bit. I look forward to watching her grow.
I received my tree earlier than expected back in June! It is now the beginning of August, and it has already grown about 3 feet. I got it for my mom for mother's day, and she loved it so much that she cried. I am SO glad that I chose Perfect Plants. I've had several plants shipped to me, but never a tree so I was a bit nervous but it was perfect. Thank you Perfect Plants!
