Fill Your Sense With Fragrant Delight - Gardenia Blooms Last All Summer!

Get ready to delight your senses with this beautiful and aromatic August Beauty Gardenia shrub!  This instantly fragrant white gardenia flowering shrub is the perfect way to express the grace of the South in your landscape.

Gardenia jasminoides August Beauty gardenia bush is a prolific bloomer and makes an elegant addition to any landscape as a low hedge, privacy screen, or accent plant. Plant this tight, plant the Gardenia Augusta in enclosed areas such as an entry to a gazebo or patios where its fragrant velvety perfume can be best enjoyed. Plus, the August Beauty Gardenia is deer resistant so you don’t have to worry about protecting your plants from these wildlife creatures.

August gardenia plant is found in its 3 inches wide, creamy white flowers which bloom all summer long and tantalize anyone who walks by! The dark green leaves will contrast the white blooms nicely all the way until fall when the blooms are complete.

The sweet fragrance attracts butterflies and other insects to your garden especially if mass planted. You may also use the blossoms as cut flowers in bouquets or centerpieces on your kitchen table. Gardenias have been around for thousands of years and it is no secret as to why John Ellis started growing this plant in the US in 1761.

This evergreen shrub actively grows in full sun to partial shade especially when the white blooms explode after the spring ends. The gardenia likes a planting site with morning sun and afternoon shade. Be sure to protect it from the afternoon sun to make the sweetly fragrant flowers last as long as possible.

Fairly drought tolerant but be sure to stay on top of the watering schedule for the first year after planting to establish a strong root system. Plant the gardenia in early spring in well drained soils that are slightly acidic. It is best to plant in spring so it has the whole growing season to establish.

Planting August Beauty Gardenia

The August Beauty Gardenia shade plant is easy to grow and likes organically rich matter such as peat moss or mulch to enrich with nutrients it may be lacking. Gardenia plants like an acidic fertilizer in early spring which will encourage more fragrant blooms. Deadheading the spent buds will promote additional gardenia flowers.

How To Grow August Beauty Gardenia

Grow gardenia across the southern United States in USDA growing zones 7-9. Commonly seen in South Carolina yards and gardens or any southern landscape. The August Beauty gardenia size is 4-6 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide and has a medium growth rate.

Shipping information

Once your August Beauty Gardenia Shrub order is placed, we will ship your plant(s) within seven business days year round unless during the checkout process you request otherwise in the space provided to do so.

Perfect Plants’ shipping specialists carefully package your plants using a proven packaging method that ensures your plants arrive healthy, colorfully alive and ready to flourish. We’ve coined the term ‘upside down box test’ and we do just that; we carefully package so that regardless of the direction your box is handled, it will not harm your precious plant that’s inside.

No shipping process is without a problem from time to time. On rare occasions some plants may experience some of the following during their transit: drooping, minor leaf-loss and/or minimal yellowing/discoloration, minor limb damage, etc. These instances are quite rare, but can happen when shipping plants in boxes.

Plants normally recover within a few weeks after planting. If a damaged box has injured your plant on the inside, please notify us within 5 days of receiving you package(s) by emailing us a photograph of the damage.

We always do our very best to ensure that your plants are packed and shipped in the safest, gentlest and most effective way possible.

Will my plants and trees look like the photographs?

Absolutely! Unlike other online nurseries, our photos are of actual plants and trees we’ve grown here, on our family operated nursery.

Growing our own plants and trees helps to ensure we ship you the best quality plants that are free of pests and diseases.

Your plants and trees may however not ship with flowers on them, like the photographs. This all depends on the time of year you buy your plant or tree. Crape Myrtle trees, for example, only bloom during the summer months, so if you purchase one during the spring or fall, they would ship without flowers. Once planted, your plants will grow and thrive giving you flowers for many years to come!

Pot Sizes

Pot sizes (commonly referred to in gallons) are shipped in the same size nursery trade pots which may vary in actual volume. Some plants may have been at the approximate pot size listed, but require excess dirt to be removed so that you will not be paying any additional shipping costs. This doesn’t happen very often though.

Shipping Fees

Our shipping charges are based on the value of your order.  Please use the chart below to see what your shipping charge will be.

This beautiful Gardenia does well in full sun to partial shade. It can be grown in heavier shade, but more sun is ideal for flower production. It needs weekly, regular watering and may need more in extreme heat.

The August Beauty prefers moist but not soggy, well-drained and acidic soil. Blooms develop best on new growth, so prune in late winter to remove any dead branches and maintain shape.

Multiples should be planted 4 or more feet apart.

Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as your new plant’s root ball and deep enough so that the top of the root ball is equal with the ground level.

Loosen the root ball using a small garden spade or by hand. Breaking smaller outer roots can encourage growth into the new soil, but take care to not damage large primary roots.

Place the plant in the hole and ensure that it is situated evenly upright. Use the excavated soil to fill in around the root ball, using your foot to pack it in firmly. Thoroughly soak with a hose as you fill in the dirt. Take great care to not leave any gaps or air spaces around the root ball as this could kill the plant.

A 2-4 inch layer of mulch is strongly recommended to help retain moisture and discourage weed growth. Apply mulch over the entire planting area but keep away from the stems or trunk by a few inches. Ensure that the plant and surrounding soil is completely soaked with water.

To ensure the proper nutrients are available for the life of your August Beauty Gardenia, our proprietary Perfect Plants Special Blend Soil and a once yearly application of Nutricote Total 360 Fertilizer are great considerations for your new plants!

The Plants were perfect

Ordered from several different online nurseries. These plants were by far the best, as if I had hand picked them for myself. They were actually perfect.

I received my third plant from Perfect Plants, a 3-gallon gardenia. Like my previous orders the plant arrived in great condition. It was packaged such that there wasn’t any damage from shipping. The soil was moist and the leaves a vibrant green. My previous orders were for blueberry bushes that are now sprouting blueberries. I highly recommend this company for supplying beautiful, well grown plants.

I bought 9 for along the wall of my garage. I wanted to be able to smell the flowers when they were blooming. They just arrived with flower buds on them which is great. Order date was 5/11/16- received 5/15/16.
