Looking for a self pollinating, low chill apple tree that will withstand a hot and humid climate? If so, the Anna Apple Tree is the choice for you!
The Anna Apple is an Israeli selection and its fruits are lusciously medium to large sized apples. This tree’s apples have light green and yellow skin with a slight red blush. The anna apples are sweet, slightly tart, and crisp with creamy light flesh. Fresh eating and delicious taste!
This ann apple variety is particularly noted for heavy crops. The tree will produce at an early age, and its fruit is great for eating fresh and baking and will store up to 2 months in the refrigerator. Anna Apples thrive in areas not previously known for growing apples as it needs only 200-300 chill hours to break dormancy. It is an early season apple that ripens in June to produce delicious apples.
ANNA APPLE TREE CARE
The growth rate of this apple tree is moderate. Grows less than 8 inches per year. Prefers full sun and slightly shaded during the hot afternoon temperatures. Prefers slightly acidic soil. This apple variety is the perfect apple tree for the south! Will thrive in some other areas of the United States.
After Anna apple tree planting, the trees will produce at an early age and are self-fertile. But anna apple pollination with an apple variety such as Dorsett Golden apple will increase production, meaning more fruit for you! For more information on this check out our blog on cross pollination in fruit trees.
This apple tree grows best across the United States in USDA growing zones 6-9. The chill requirement makes it an ideal choice for people in warmer southern climates with mild winters.
It does not ship bare root. This tree is grown rooted in a pot with soil and will come shipped that way. Check out our blog on Apple Tree Diseases if you are experiencing issues.

Once your Anna Apple Tree order is placed, we will ship your plant(s) within seven business days year round unless during the checkout process you request otherwise in the space provided to do so.
Perfect Plants’ shipping specialists carefully package your plants using a proven packaging method that ensures your plants arrive healthy, colorfully alive and ready to flourish. We’ve coined the term ‘upside down box test’ and we do just that; we carefully package so that regardless of the direction your box is handled, it will not harm your precious plant that’s inside.
No shipping process is without a problem from time to time. On rare occasions some plants may experience some of the following during their transit: drooping, minor leaf-loss and/or minimal yellowing/discoloration, minor limb damage, etc. These instances are quite rare, but can happen when shipping plants in boxes.
Plants normally recover within a few weeks after planting. If a damaged box has injured your plant on the inside, please notify us within 5 days of receiving you package(s) by emailing us a photograph of the damage.
We always do our very best to ensure that your plants are packed and shipped in the safest, gentlest and most effective way possible.
Will my plants and trees look like the photographs?
Absolutely! Unlike other online nurseries, our photos are of actual plants and trees we’ve grown here, on our family operated nursery.
Growing our own plants and trees helps to ensure we ship you the best quality plants that are free of pests and diseases.
Your plants and trees may however not ship with flowers on them, like the photographs. This all depends on the time of year you buy your plant or tree. Crape Myrtle trees, for example, only bloom during the summer months, so if you purchase one during the spring or fall, they would ship without flowers. Once planted, your plants will grow and thrive giving you flowers for many years to come!
Pot sizes (commonly referred to in gallons) are shipped in the same size nursery trade pots which may vary in actual volume. Some plants may have been at the approximate pot size listed, but require excess dirt to be removed so that you will not be paying any additional shipping costs. This doesn’t happen very often though.
Our shipping charges are based on the value of your order. Please use the chart below to see what your shipping charge will be.
ANNA APPLE TREE CARE:
The Anna Apple variety is particularly suited to Southern gardens! It will grow best in an area with full sun. Early morning sun is especially important as dew can have a negative impact on the tree if allowed to linger. Locations with good airflow are best.
The Anna Apple requires well-drained soils, as their roots should never remain soggy. Overly sandy or dry locations may require more frequent water however. Regular watering is necessary for the tree’s first planted year. A pH of 6- 6.5 is most ideal for fruit production.
The Anna Apple is self-fertile so it needs no pollinator to produce its delicious fruit. Planting another low-chill Apple variety, such as a Fuji or Dorsett close by will cause multiplied fruit production if desired however.
Prune selectively in the late winter to facilitate growth of a balanced, strong framework, maintain shape and to remove tightly packed limbs that may hinder airflow through the tree’s canopy.
Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as your new plant’s root ball and deep enough so that the top of the root ball is equal with the ground level.
Loosen the root ball using a small garden spade or by hand. Breaking smaller outer roots can encourage growth into the new soil, but take care to not damage large primary roots.
Place the plant in the hole and ensure that it is situated evenly upright. Use the excavated soil to fill in around the root ball, using your foot to pack it in firmly. Thoroughly soak with a hose as you fill in the dirt. Take great care to not leave any gaps or air spaces around the root ball as this could kill the plant.
A 2-4 inch layer of mulch is strongly recommended to help retain moisture and discourage weed growth. Apply mulch over the entire planting area but keep away from the stems or trunk by a few inches. Ensure that the plant and surrounding soil is completely soaked with water.
To ensure the proper nutrients are available for the life of your Anna Apple Tree, our proprietary Perfect Plants Special Blend Soil and a once yearly application of Nutricote Total 360 Fertilizer are great considerations for your new plants!

I was immediately impressed with her robust size, she is perhaps overdue a larger container (in my opinion). She will be planted as soon as the rainwater drip irrigation is ready ... so right now she is getting rainwater drinks morning and evening. She has multiple lateral limbs in a nice vase shape already. Lots of healthy leaves.
Perfect transaction from beginning to end. Healthy larger than expected beauty of a tree. Package was very safe. Received very quickly. Cant say enough good things . We planted same day and it is doing great. Would definitely recommend. Thank you
It looks good.
I have been trying to find the Anna Apple tree for a while now. My tree arrived with baby green apples. I can't wait to see this tree grow and grow. I heard the apples get bigger every year.
