Evergreen Privacy Hedge Creates a Formal Look in Any Garden

If you’re needing a full-bodied low hedge, then the Buxus Green Velvet Boxwood shrub is the right plant for you! It provides year-round functionality, a uniform shape, and is cold-hardy. You can trim this hedge into decorative shapes to outline special areas, create a maze, or simply stylize your yard.

Boxwood 'Green Velvet' shrub is a hybrid between the Korean boxwood and the English boxwood. As a result, the green velvet boxwood has added hardiness, compact growth, a deep green color, and is adapted to a wide variety of soil conditions.

This shrub will provide optimal and uniform color most of the year. By late winter, its leaves may lighten into a bronze color if exposed to harsh winter winds.

Individual leaves are delicate and beautiful. The leaf structure is long and round with a soft velvety texture. New foliage starts out bright green and deepens to a darker rich green as it matures. It is also evergreen and will keep your yard looking fresh far into the winter months.

This boxwood gets small yellow flowers in the spring.

Green Velvet Boxwood Care

The 3-gallon green velvet boxwood is disease, deer, and pest resistant. It is relatively low maintenance too. This boxwood grows best in zones 4 through 9.

It does well in full sun or partial shade. It prefers at least 4 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Though it's drought tolerant, it is best to water the green velvet boxwood weekly when in the ground or more regularly when potted or if enduring extreme heat. Mulch well around the base of the shrub to encourage water retention. Do not overwater.

The green velvet boxwood can adapt to a wide range of soil types and requires well-draining soil. Fertilize with tree and shrub food.

Green Velvet Boxwood Size

This boxwood grows slowly to moderately and reaches a size of 3 to 4 feet tall and wide. It’s best to plant your green velvet boxwood spacing at least 2 to 3 feet apart in order to create a uniform and continuous green velvet boxwood hedge. You can expect a new growth of 12 inches annually.
