BURGUNDY FOLIAGE & LONG WEEPING BRANCHES GIVE AN AMAZING ORIENTAL LOOK TO ANY GARDEN

Add a luscious burst of purple red color to your landscape with the vigorous growing Weeping Tamukeyama Japanese Maple tree!

Botanically name Acer palmatum dissectum ‘Tamukeyama’ – this ornamental tree comes with many nicknames including the Weeping Japanese Maple Tree, Laceleaf Maple Tree, or Cutleaf Maple Tree due to its lacy and elegant leaves. Emerging a bright red color in early spring, the Tamukeyama Japanese Maple leaf eventually fades into shades of dark burgundy and crimson through summer and fall. Being a deciduous tree, it will lose its crimson red foliage color during winter to expose its bare form. The lacy foliage is uniquely elongated and as delicate as lace with long deep lobes.

With waxy, deep red bark and graceful cascading branches,  the Acer Tamukeyama tree puts on a delightful show in the landscape throughout every season. Seeing its unparalleled charm in person is the only way to experience the full effect of this Dwarf Weeping Japanese Maple variety.

It’s best to enjoy this small tree somewhere in the landscape where it can be seen as a focal point in the front yard. Plant the Weeping Laceleaf Japanese Maple tree in small gardens needing a little extra shade, in oriental themed gardens, woodland gardens, or even in containers for small spaces.

TAMUKEYAMA JAPANESE MAPLE CARE

The Tamukeyama Japanese maple tree prefers full sun to partial sunlight and well-drained soil for best results. A planting site with afternoon shade and protection from the hot afternoon sun works best for the deepest of fall colors to emerge. This is especially true for southern climates with hot summer months — part shade is essential for the tree’s health.

This cold-hardy Japanese maple cultivar is low maintenance and easy to grow. The best USDA hardiness zones in the United States for the Tamukeyama Laceleaf Japanese Maple are growing zones 5-8.

How to Plant Tamukeyama Japanese Maple

Planting Acer Palmatum Tamukeyama is easy! Your beautiful tree will arrive potted and should be watered well as soon as you take it out of the box. Dig a hole about 2-3x as large as the root zone. Place the tree into the planting hole and backfill with native soil or amended soil like our slightly Acidic Potting Mix. Firmly compact the soil around the root ball, making sure not to smoosh the roots or get too much soil near the trunk. Mulch with a thick 2 inch layer of organic matter to help retain moisture and protect the root systems during winter. Water well the first year of planting to establish a strong system. How Fast Does a Tamukeyama Japanese Maple Grow

The Tamukeyama Japanese maple size is up to 6-10 feet tall and 10-12 feet wide at maturity. It forms a dome wider than its height to offer a beautiful burst of color all season long. The Tamukeyama Japanese maple growth rate is moderate and can grow up to 1-2 feet per year. The addition of a slow release fertilizer applied in early spring will help give the upright tree a boost of nutrients it needs to grow healthy and strong!

How to Prune Tamukeyama Japanese Maple

You can keep Tamukeyama Japanese maple pruned to any desired size and shape that fits in your landscape. Or you can allow it to grow into its natural form. The best time to prune dwarf Japanese maples is in late winter or early spring while the weeping tree is dormant for best results & to see branch patterns. You can prune back any dead branches or crossed branches at any time of the year and this will not harm the tree. Always make clean cuts with sterilized pruning shears or loppers.
