Year-Round Purple Foliage Brings the Pop of Color Your Garden Needs

The Dwarf Crimson Fire Loropetalum is a perfect shrub for a small area and red color. The fiery red leaves will provide a pop of color year-round to brighten up any spot in your yard. The shrub also produces blooms that are irresistible to hummingbirds and butterflies.

The Dwarf Loropetalum 'Crimson Fire' is considered to be a smaller variety of the shrub so it is ideal for growing in small outdoor spaces. Grow this attractive flowering shrub in-ground or in a container for a splash of red color.

Four Season Interest

Crimson Fire loropetalum is one of those rare plants that provide landscape interest year-round. The shrub leaves are red throughout the year but the red coloration changes slightly. The foliage is ruby red in the spring and deepens until it reaches a dark burgundy in the fall.

The foliage will remain the dark burgundy color until spring when the red coloration will lighten and blooms will appear on the shrub. Hot pink, fringed flowers will appear in spring and attract the attention of pollinators in the area.

Crimson Fire Loropetalum Size

The small size and bold color of the Crimson Fire loropetalum are ideal for use as an accent plant, foundation plant, or container plant. It can even be used as a second-row plant with taller plants behind it and shorter annuals grown in front of it.

The compact growth and mounding habit of this shrub allow it to stay small for years. The shrub will reach a mature size of 2-3 feet tall and equally as wide. The Crimson Fire Loropetalum growth rate is up to 1 foot per year. It’s a fast-growing shrub so it will reach a mature size within the first couple of years. This makes it ideal for use in a new landscape where mature plant color is desirable.

Crimson Fire Loropetalum Care

Loropetalum is hardy in USDA growing zones 7-9. The flowering shrub can be grown in cooler climates if it’s protected from freezing winter temperatures. Grow the shrub in a container and overwinter it on a covered porch or in a garage to protect it from freezing.

Crimson Fire Loropetalum Fertilizer

Because of its color display throughout the year, Crimson Fire will need to be fed 2-3 times each year. Use your favorite organic plant food or a balanced 10-10-10 fertilizer to feed the shrub in the spring, summer, and one last time in the fall. Apply 1/2 cup of plant food per shrub.

Crimson Fire is semi-drought tolerant. It will need to be watered regularly during the first year, after that a weekly watering is sufficient.

The shrub grows well in full or partial sun. If you live in a hot climate that has intense afternoon sun, plant the Crimson Fire loropetalum in a location that receives morning sun and afternoon shade.

Loropetalum grows best in well-draining soil that contains plenty of organic matter. The organic matter will help keep the soil fertile and moist.

Crimson Fire Loropetalum Pruning

The fast-growing habit of the shrub may cause it to outgrow its bounds quickly. Prune overgrown shrubs as soon as they finish blooming in the spring. Prune off 1/3 of the overall growth to keep the shrub contained and looking neat.

Plant Arrived Healthy and Beautiful

This is the first year I've ever ordered plants online and I was worried. But PerfectPlants packed our 3 lorapetulum shrubs so well that the soil was still moist on arrival. The leaves were healthy and there were no broken branches. The shrubs have been in the ground for a couple of weeks now and are doing great.
