The ‘Professor Sargent’ Camellia sometimes called 'Professor Charles S. Sargent' Camellia is a striking evergreen shrub prized for its lush, deep green foliage and dramatic, rose-like red flowers. A standout in winter and early spring gardens, this Camellia japonica variety offers a regal presence and reliable performance in temperate climates.
Large, formal double blooms in rich crimson red resemble peony or rose blossoms, with densely layered petals forming a perfect, symmetrical shape. Each flower is a showstopper, making it a favorite for cut arrangements and ornamental display. The best thing about these blooms is that they bloom in late winter through early spring (typically January to March) when few other plants are in flower.
Glossy, leathery, dark green leaves offer year-round interest and create a handsome backdrop to the vivid blooms. Ideal planting sites are foundation plantings, garden focal points, privacy hedges, woodland gardens or shaded borders, or in large containers for patios or entryways.
