Sunny Knock Out® Rose Offers Continuous Blooms, Sweet Scent & Disease Resistance All Season Long

Add Fragrance and Bright Yellow Color with the Sunny Knock Out® Rose Bush

As the only fragrant member of the Knock Out® family, the Sunny KnockOut Rose Bush adds not only a burst of cheerful yellow but also a sweet scent to your garden! Enjoy cheerful yellow double blooms and a light citrus scent with the Sunny Knock Out® Rose, the only fragrant variety in the Knock Out® family. This hardy, disease-resistant shrub flowers from spring through fall and thrives in gardens big or small.

This cultivar’s fragrant, bright yellow flowers fade quickly to a pastel cream color and have double blooms continuously and proliferate. The sunny knockout bloom color stays more intense during cooler times but the golden yellow color stays year round.

Flowers blossoms appear in early spring. The yellow knockout rose blooming season is in spring and summer.

This beautiful rose bush makes for a superb low hedge. The dark green, semi-glossy foliage contrasts nicely with the bright yellow blooms, and you can enjoy this deciduous bloom cycle all summer long.

Grows in an upright habit during most times of the year and the yellow knock out rose turns quickly to pastel once the summer heat settles in. You can even grow this flowering shrub in the afternoon shade if in a hot climate.

How to Take Care of Sunny Knock Out® Rose Bushes

Knockout roses require full sun and well-drained soil types. You can amend your native soil with our Rose Soil Mix to keep those roses growing happy and healthy. They can grow up to 3-5 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide at maturity.

Grow the yellow rose bush across the United States in USDA plant hardiness zones 5-10. It has great winter hardiness. The best time to plant a rose bush is in spring or fall.

Like the other KnockOut family members, the Sunny Knock Out Rose Bush has extraordinary resistance to common rust, mildew, and black spot foliage disease resistance. It is also drought tolerant once established.

Pruning roses should take place in late winter or early spring. Cut back your rose plants to about 1 foot tall. A planting site with an open area will help with air circulation and aids in the health of the plant according to Southern Living. You can prune this rose shrub into a yellow knockout rose tree if that is your desired shape.

Fertilize your rose bush near the root ball once a year in early spring with slow-release fertilizer to give it a nice boost for growth and flower production. Water thoroughly during the first year of planting to establish a strong root system.

FAQs for Sunny Knock Out® Rose Bush

Drift Roses and Knock Out Roses are both known for their easy care and repeat blooming, but they differ in size and growth habit. Drift Roses are compact, low-growing roses typically used as groundcover, borders, or container plants. Knock Out Roses, including Sunny Knock Out, grow larger and fuller, making them better suited as standalone shrubs, hedges, or landscape focal points.

Sunny Knock Out Roses do not require deadheading to continue blooming, as they are self-cleaning and naturally rebloom throughout the season. However, removing spent flowers can improve the plant’s appearance and encourage slightly fuller growth, especially during peak blooming periods.

Plant Sunny Knock Out Roses in a location that receives full sun and has well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep, then place the rose so the top of the root ball sits level with the surrounding soil. Backfill, water thoroughly, and apply mulch to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Amending native soil with a rose-specific or organic soil mix can further support healthy growth.

Sunny Knock Out Roses typically reach 3 to 5 feet tall and spread about 3 to 4 feet wide at maturity. Their rounded growth habit makes them ideal for mass plantings, foundation beds, or as a bright, cheerful accent shrub in the landscape.
