Lacelike Blooms Fill This Azalea Shrub in Spring

This azalea variety produces a mass of large white blooms that will make everyone stop and take a second look. The Gumpo White Azalea shrub lives up to its’ name with pure white lacy blooms that will cover the bush for about four weeks in late spring.

The Azalea Gumpo White will look covered with snow when it’s in full bloom and will make a dramatic impact anywhere you plant it. This easy-care azalea is a must-have if you’re looking for a plant that will produce true white flowers.

White Gumpo Azalea provides beauty and interest year-round. This azalea is a low-maintenance evergreen that has perfect foliage throughout the year. The leaves are typical for an azalea but slightly smaller since it’s a dwarf variety.

This azalea is cold hardy and the foliage will remain green even when there’s snow on the ground during winter. The dense leaf cover will help prevent snowfall from breaking the branches.

Landscaping Azaleas in Your Garden

White Gumpo is ideal for use in a cottage garden, a woodland setting, or a spring flower garden.

This azalea is low-growing and makes an ideal ground cover in landscape areas where there is no foot traffic.

White Gumpo azaleas are great for borders, mixed beds, shade gardens, rock gardens, and containers. These are great little bushes to plant anywhere in the landscape that tends to remain dark. The pure white blooms in spring and constant green foliage will brighten up the dark location.

The bush develops spreading branches that creep across the ground and will form an evergreen mat when the bushes are planted close together. When used as a ground cover, White Gumpo azaleas will help prevent soil erosion, prevent weed growth, and makes a perfect green bush to plant in front of tall-growing plants.

Since this variety of azalea is low-growing and low-maintenance, they are ideal for growing on landscape slopes where mowing is not desirable. It is a slow-growing bush that will take a few years to reach maturity and create a living mat.

White Gumpo Azalea Care

White Gumpo is hardy in USDA growing zones 6-10. This is a hardy azalea that tolerates drought and cold temperatures.

Plant in partial shade. Azalea satsuki 'Gumpo White' makes good understory plants and thrives when grown in the dappled shade of taller trees and shrubs.

Gumpo White Azalea Size

Gumpo White Dwarf Azalea is a petite azalea bush that will be 1-2 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide when mature. It is a slow-growing bush that will take a few years to reach maturity. It’s considered a dwarf azalea but what it lacks in size it makes up for in floral production and evergreen foliage.

This hardy azalea is adaptable to almost any soil type as long as it drains well. Azaleas are in the rhododendron family and all these family members grow best in slightly acidic soil.

Mulch the newly planted bushes with pine needles and refresh the pine needle layer yearly to keep the soil pH just right for the azalea.

Feed once a year in the early spring with an acid plant food that is formulated for members of the rhododendron family.

If pruning is desired, do it immediately after the White Gumpo azalea has finished blooming in late spring.
