- Low-maintenance and beginner-friendly; one of the easiest roses you can grow
The Lemon Drift® Rose Bush brings nonstop lemon-yellow blooms that fade to creamy white, offering vivid color and compact growth all season long. Ideal for borders, small gardens, or ground cover, it thrives in full sun and is disease resistant, winter hardy, and reblooming.
Like the Popcorn drift rose, the rose color starts as a soft yellow and fades to creamy white blooms. The overall impression is yellow and cream reminiscent and has contrasting dark green foliage that lies underneath the yellow roses.
Drift Roses are a cross of full-size ground cover roses and miniature roses. They gained durability, disease resistance, and winter hardiness from the full-size ground cover roses. The Drift series rose bushes gained a healthy size and repeat-blooming nature from the miniatures.
They enhance edgings, fill empty spaces, and spread elegantly around established plants, small gardens, or rock walls. Yellow rose bushes are low maintenance and will reward you with endless color all season long.
To create an array of colors, plant with other shrub roses like Pink Drift Rose or Peach Drift Rose.
Why Should You Plant the Lemon Drift® Rose Bush?
A Natural Fit for Tight Spaces: At 1.5 feet tall and 2.5 feet wide, Lemon Drift® tucks into spots where full-sized roses simply don't fit. Use it to edge a border, fill the space between established plants, soften the base of a rock wall, or mass it as a weed-suppressing ground cover across a sunny slope.
Color That Evolves Through the Season: The blooms open in a warm, saturated lemon yellow and age to soft creamy white, so the plant carries both tones at once through much of the season. The contrast between the bright new flowers and the fading older ones — all set against dark green foliage — gives the plant a richness that solid-color roses often can't match.
Bred for Durability, Not Just Beauty: Lemon Drift® is a cross between full-sized ground cover roses and miniature roses, and it inherited the best qualities of both. The ground cover side of the lineage brought disease resistance, winter hardiness, and a tough, adaptable constitution. The miniature side contributed a healthy blooming size and the vigorous repeat-flowering habit that keeps the plant covered in color from spring through fall.
Pairs Beautifully With Other Drift Varieties: For gardeners who want to build out a multicolor planting, Lemon Drift® combines naturally with Pink Drift® and Peach Drift® roses. The soft color palette of the series works together cohesively, and mixing varieties across a border or bed creates a flowing, cottage-style display that blooms all season.
How to Best Care for Your Lemon Drift® Rose
- Plant in full sun for the heaviest blooming; at least 6 hours of direct light daily keeps the plant performing at its best.
- Prefers well-drained soil; good drainage is the most important soil consideration for long-term health and disease resistance.
- Be sure to water the drift groundcover roses thoroughly during the first year to establish a strong root system and keep the soil moist. These creamy white and yellow blooms prefer full sun and rest assured they will make your landscape look beautiful!
- Prune once in early spring after the last frost has passed to clean up winter dieback and encourage a flush of vigorous new growth; beyond that annual reset, the plant needs very little intervention.
- Drift roses grow best across the United States in USDA plant hardiness zones 5-11. The yellow drift rose can get up to 1.5 feet tall and 2.5 feet wide at full maturity.
