The plants in our collection look beautiful indoors, but most of them can be grown outside in the appropriate climate. They look gorgeous in containers next to sunny windows or shady beds outside. The Ficus Elastica ‘Ruby’ starts small but can grow big enough to fill up a corner in your home. The Variegated Spider Plant is great for hanging up, and it will continually put out new pups. One plant that usually does better indoors than outdoors is the Red Chinese Evergreen. This plant thrives in low light and shade, which makes it a popular choice for growing indoors. The Red Chinese Evergreen is an evergreen plant that produces long bright green leaves with red edges and stocks.

Air Purifying House Plants Care Overview

We have various plants to choose from with different care requirements. All air purifying plants can be grown indoors and require very little maintenance. Since they grow indoors, you can enjoy their beautiful foliage year-round. Most plants can’t tolerate frost, so if you plant them outside, be sure you can provide them protection from the cold winter months.

How to Plant Air Purifying Plants

If you’re growing your air purifying plant inside, choose a new pot for it that’s only a couple of inches bigger than the root ball. Indoor plants usually like being slightly root bound and should only be given a new pot when the roots take up most of the soil.

Place the plant in the container so that the top of the root ball is level with the top of the container. Fill in the empty space with soil and water it deeply.

To grow your plant outdoors, dig a hole about the size of the root ball, and just as you would with a container plant, fill it with soil and water it. It’s important to water the outdoor plants deeply so the roots will establish deep into the ground. Use mulch around the base of the plant to maintain moisture and keep the ground cool.

Mature Heights and Zoning

The heights and zones vary for each plant, so compare each plant to find the ones that will work for you. All the plants can be grown indoors, but some may have specific light and humidity requirements. English Ivy can be grown outdoors in zones 4-11 and grow vines up to 10 feet tall. The Sansevieria Zeylanica Snake Plant can grow up to 3 feet tall and can grow outdoors in zones 9-11.

How to Water Air Purifying Plants

No two house plants are quite alike, so it’s important to note how much water each air purifying plant needs so you can keep it happy. The Majesty Palm Tree likes to be watered frequently and should never be allowed to dry out, while a Snake Plant is drought tolerant and can dry out completely before it needs water again!

Unless a plant requires differently, we recommend watering deeply to quench your plant’s thirst and encourage deep root growth.

How to Fertilize Air Purifying Plants

Fertilizer is often recommended for air purifying plants, although it’s not necessarily required. You can apply a slow-release granule fertilizer once a year or use a liquid fertilizer every time you water. Use whichever is easier for your plant care routine.

How to Prune Air Purifying Plants

Most air purifying plants won’t need to be pruned until you need to remove dead or diseased foliage. You can also trim plants if they get too bushy or leggy. English Ivy will need to be trimmed more often if you grow it outdoors since it grows vigorously and is considered invasive in many regions.
