This Encore azalea variety is known for its abundance of radiant bright-pink double blooms that continue to grow all through the summer and fall seasons. And its exquisite blossoms aren’t only attractive to the human eye—the Autumn Empress™ Encore® Azalea shrub is a favorite among the birds, bees, and butterflies!

The Autumn Empress™ Azalea has medium pink semi-double blooms that cascade over its rich dark green foliage and contrasts nicely. In winter, the foliage turns a bronze color. Its beautiful medium pink blooms begin in the spring and then re-bloom in the fall. A vigorous grower, the Encore Autumn Empress™ is upright, dense, and globosely in nature.

Rhododendron ‘Autumn Empress’ Azalea is a dwarf variety and an excellent choice for a specimen plant, small privacy hedge, or screen and adds a burst of color to any landscape. With its small size, you can plant it in any garden bed or foundation planting.

AUTUMN EMPRESS ENCORE AZALEA CARE

The dwarf Autumn Empress™ pink Encore Azalea bush does best in well-drained, slightly acidic soil and prefers partial sun to partial shade. A planting site with morning sun and afternoon shade is best to shield it from the harsh rays and direct full sun.

These light pink azalea bushes can grow across the United States in USDA zones 6-10. This spring-blooming azalea is very cold hardy! It has an upright growth habit and can grow 3-4 feet tall and wide at maturity making it perfect for small planting sites or a good choice for planting around the foundation of a building or home.

Water thoroughly the first year of planting to establish a strong root system. Apply a slow-release fertilizer in early spring to aid in flower production and emerging foliage growth. You can prune Encore azaleas after the first bloom in late spring to shape the shrub to the desired size.
