The Moonglow pear fruit has greenish-brown skin that turns blush pink when ripe. It is very similar to a Bartlett Pear and the fruit size is medium to large. A benefit of this fruit is that it is low acid, and is chocked full of vitamins and nutrients.
This European pear variety produces white flowers in mid to late spring and has dark green foliage that will stay on the tree until fall. Being a deciduous tree, it will lose all its leaves over winter but not before putting on a display of fall color when the green leaves turn to yellow.

Pears like to be planted in slightly acidic soil that is well-draining and rich with nutrients. Apply a thick 2-inch layer of mulch to the base of the root ball to help provide moisture retention.
Be sure to water thoroughly the first year of planting to establish a strong root system. During the active growing season, the fruit tree should get around 1 inch of water per week.
Moonglow pear is very resistant to fire blight, as well as other pest and disease issues. The mature size of this pear variety is up to 8-10 feet tall and 5-10 feet wide. Regular pruning performed annually will help to keep this pear fruit tree at a manageable size where fruit can be picked with ease. It has a vigorous growth rate of 1-2 feet per year and an upright growth habit. Prune pear trees in late winter or early spring while still dormant.

Expect the first year to bear fruit to be 2-3 years after planting. They are heavy bearers and will produce fruit for many years. Is Moonglow Pear a Self Pollinating Fruit Tree?
Pyrus communis ‘Moonglow’ is not self-fertile and requires another pear tree nearby for cross-pollination. Trees should be planted no more than 50 feet away from each other to cross-pollinate. Bees are the primary pollinators of pear trees and having multiple types of pear trees will increase fruit production. Moonglow variety is a very good variety for pollinating other common pear trees too.
