These plants are known to be easy to care for and will come back each year if you plant them in the appropriate conditions.
How to Plant Proven Winners Plants
Whether you plant your Proven Winners plant in the ground or a container, dig a hole about the size of the root ball and place the plant into the hole. The top of the root ball should be lined up with the soil’s surface. Fill in empty space with soil and water it well.
To help regulate moisture and temperature, add a 1–2-inch layer of mulch around the root ball on top of the soil. Plants will always appreciate mulch, especially during the hottest parts of the year.
Mature Heights and Zoning
Most of our Proven Winners plants are 2-5-feet tall shrubs. Our tallest plant is the Fire Light Hydrangea Tree, a shrub pruned to look like a small tree and grows up to 8 feet tall.
The growing zones range from 3-11 and vary based on the plant. Most of the plants will thrive in temperate zones, and several of them can grow in zone 3, and the Tecoma Chicklet Orange Trumpet Vine can grow in warm zones up to 11.
How to Water Proven Winner's Plants
Make sure your Proven Winners plants have well-draining soil to prevent the roots from waterlogging and developing root rot.
The amount of water your plants need will depend on the plant, but in general, most plants need to be watered when the top 1-2 inches of the soil are dry. When it’s time to water, water deeply, so the plants develop deep roots.
Plants that receive full sun will need more water than those planted in full shade, and all plants will need to be watered more frequently during a drought.
How to Fertilize Proven Winners Plants
You can fertilize your Proven Winners plants at the time of planting by applying the fertilizer around the root ball before you cover it with soil. Choose a slow-release fertilizer you only have to apply once each year to make fertilizing easy.
Fertilize established plants in early spring to encourage the plant to develop bright blooms and glossy foliage all year.
How to Prune Proven Winners Plants
Most Proven Winners plants don’t have to be pruned, but doing so will help the plant look tidy and may encourage blooming shrubs to grow more blooms. Prune your plants in late winter or early spring before new growth develops. You can deadhead blooms immediately after blooming to encourage new growth, but be careful not to remove new buds.
