A hybrid of four different Syringa species, ‘Dark Purple’ is one of the famous Bloomerang® line of reblooming lilacs. Bloomerang® lilacs flower in spring, typically in May, and then will put on a new flush of blooms in July that typically lasts until the frost.

Syringa Lilacs are hardy to USDA zone 3-7. It is a great choice to provide long-lasting color for gardeners in cold regions. 

Reblooming Lilac Sunlight Requirements 

Plant your Bloomerang® Dark Purple in locations with full sun for at least six hours per day for best results. They will tolerate partial shade but will not make as many flowers. If your area has scorching summers, consider a location with a bit of protection from the more powerful afternoon rays.

Dark Purple  Lilac Bush Mature Size: Height And Width

Bloomerang® Dark Purple will reach 4-6 feet tall and 4-6 feet wide. 

Their medium size means they can be successfully grown in containers as well. Choose a large planter, typically the largest you can find, and ensure it has adequate drainage.

Lilac Soil Requirements 

Bloomerang® Dark Purple is tolerant of most soils but likes them well-drained. A fertile loam with plenty of organic matter makes lilacs happy. A neutral or slightly alkaline pH is preferred. Soils with poor drainage are not suitable.

Bloomerang® Dark Purple can be pruned immediately after the spring bloom if needed. A light haircut should be all that is required to keep its tight, mounded shape. Any errant longer stems can be trimmed to keep the shrub shapely. 

Pruning is not necessary for reblooming. Your Bloomerang® will put on a second show late in the summer regardless.
