USDA growing zone 8 is similar to zone 9 in that it allows for a huge range of shrubs, perennials, and trees to grow. Zone 8 is characterized by average winter temperatures between 10º and 20º F. Winters a bit more dramatic than zone 9, but drops below 32º are not common zone wide meaning it offers relatively mild cold seasons.
