Bruce Plum Tree For Sale Online

Showy White Flowers Mature Into Red Plum Fruit Perfect  for Fresh Eating off the Tree!

The Bruce Plum Tree is one of the toughest varieties of plum trees out there!

It’s a Chickasaw x Japanese Cross to create a sweet and juicy plum perfect for growing in your backyard! In late spring, white flowers will burst out of the bare stems that mature into dark red fruits. With loads of late spring blooms, there is no chance of losing them due to a late spring frost and you will get plenty of fruit on the tree in no time! With an early ripening season, you could be picking Bruce plums by June.

The medium to large fruits can be eaten fresh off the tree, baked into goods like cobblers or pies, or preserved into jellies for later use. The Bruce plum taste can be described as mildly sweet and mellow from the buttery yellow flesh. The red skin leaves a crisp crunch in your mouth.

The Bruce semi dwarf plum tree is a great choice for home gardeners to add to their backyard orchard or as a stand alone tree where the white spring flowers can be appreciated. The green leaves will produce a large canopy that makes it an excellent shade tree.

BRUCE PLUM TREE INFORMATION

Growing bruce plum trees is easy if you live in the United States plant hardiness zones 5-9. A planting site with at least 6-8 hours of full sun is required for fruit production. Japanese plum trees like well draining, slightly acidic soil that is rich in organic nutrients. The Bruce Plum chill hours are at 500 hours which is low and perfect for the southern states. This plum variety likes hot, dry summers and is drought tolerant once established.

It has good disease resistance making it an ‘easy to grow’ tree for beginners. The compact size of this fruit tree can grow 12-15 feet tall and 10-20 feet wide but annual pruning techniques can keep your tree at a good size for harvesting the plums. We recommend pruning every year in late winter to shape the tree to a desirable size.

The addition of a slow release fertilizer is very beneficial and will help the tree mature and produce flowers to set fruit. Apply a ring of mulch around the root system to help retain moisture and control weeds throughout the growing season.

Are Bruce Plum Trees Self Pollinating Fruit Trees?

They do require another plum tree nearby to act as a pollinator. Bruce plum cross pollination does well with Golden Plum, Robusto, Segundo, & Chickasaw Plums.
