FAST-GROWING SHADE TREE WITH AMAZING FALL COLOR

The Autumn Blaze Maple tree is an improved hybrid with an exceptional, long-lasting orange-red fall color, a uniform branching habit, and a fast growth rate.

This maple cultivar lives up to its name with its blazing red and glowing orange fall foliage that lasts all autumn long!

The Autumn Blaze’s maple leaves emerge in the spring with a reddish tint and turn dark green in the summer. During the shorter days of fall, the leaves turn on a brilliant shade of orange and brilliant red that gives the Autumn Blaze maple tree its name. Leaves are up to 5 inches long.

The Acer rubrum tree maintains a good central form and has wider angles than the silver maple, making it better adapted to areas with either ice or snow.

When To Plant Autumn Blaze Maples

The best time to plant an Autumn Blaze Maple tree is during the spring or fall, when the weather isn’t especially hot or cold. It’s important to plant your tree when the ground isn’t frozen, so that your roots can take hold and start building a robust root network.

Autumn Blaze Maple Growth Rate

Autumn Blaze maple trees are known for their high growth rates. Many Autumn Blaze maple trees will have a growth rate of 2 or even 4 feet each year. All red maples have high growth rates, but the Autumn Blaze is an especially fast grower.

How Far Apart To Plant Autumn Blaze Maple Trees

If you plan on planting more than one Autumn Blaze maple tree on your property, make sure to space them out at least 20 feet apart. At 20 feet, your trees’ branches will have some overlap, so if you’d prefer trees that stand independently, you’ll need closer to 40 feet between each tree due to the 30 foot width at maturity. The Autumn blaze maple roots can spread a large distance so it is important to space these trees accordingly.

Do Autumn Blaze Maples Drop Seeds?

Yes, like almost all maple trees, the Autumn Blaze produces samara seeds. These tiny seeds are often called “helicopters” or “whirlers” due to their wing-like tissue that causes them to spin when they fall to the ground. These seeds are surprisingly fun for children to play with, and usually get raked up with the rest of the leaves in the fall. Red maple trees like the Autumn Blaze produce an especially high number of seeds.

AUTUMN BLAZE MAPLE CARE

This fast growing deciduous tree can grow up to 40 to 50 feet tall and 30 to 40 feet wide at maturity. Because of the autumn blaze maple size, it is an excellent lawn, street, park or urban tree. Once it reaches maturity it is an excellent shade tree as well. Plant in full sun to partial shade to reach the maximum growth height.

The Autumn Blaze Red Maple tree tends to thrive best in much warmer climates extending well into the deep south and west. Plant Autumn Blaze across the United States in USDA growing zones 4-8. Prefers well drained soil but can tolerate a wide range of planting sites.

This maple Acer does not ship bare root. It is rooted in its nursery container with soil. It is a popular tree for its disease resistance and rapid growth rate. Be sure to check out our Maple Tree Grow Guide for more information.

You will be happy with the Autumn Blaze Maple for sale in your yard or landscape. Maples grow in a variety of planting sites including wet soils and dry soils and are drought tolerant once established.

Can grow up to 65' tall

It's a fast-growing tree that gives dappled shade. Planted in 2000 in Zone 7B, it's now over 65 feet tall. Taller than I wanted, it's crowding out other things, so beware! Watch out for limbs growing at too shallow an angle off the trunk. You want them coming out more perpendicular than parallel to the trunk. The risk is the bark at the joint gets included, leading to weakness and possible breakage. Very little variety in the limbs on mine, they all just shoot up. So if you want beautiful branches, this may not be the tree.

Our tree arrived in good shape and so far is doing ok in this extreme heat. I was skeptical to buy a live tree online, but the service was great and I would highly recommend Perfect Plants.

The rest of my order was great with beautiful plants...except for this maple tree... not impressed. I ordered the 5 gallon size & pretty much got a stick with one branch coming off one side..for the price I would have expected more :(
