The Elliot pecan tree is known for its deliciously tasty sweet flavored pecans. Originating in Santa Rose County, Florida, this cultivar continues to grow in market acceptance thanks to its flavorful production.

The first Elliot pecan seedling was found in Milton, Florida by Henry Elliot, an American lumberman. He found the tree as a seedling in the lawn. If you were wondering if pecan trees can be grown from the nut.. the answer is yes and this guy proved it!

The Elliot pecan tree has proven again and again to be incredibly scab and disease resistant. This makes it a very low-maintenance tree once planted. This cultivar thrives in warmer weather and will begin maturation and high-quality nut production in late October.

Its tear-dropped shaped nuts will shell to reveal light golden kernels at 72 nuts per pound and 51% kernel. The nut quality and nut size are impeccable!

This tree gets up to 100 feet tall at full maturity and has a 70-foot branch span. Produces its nuts from November to February when they are ready to harvest. The Elliott plant can be grown in most of the southeastern United States in USDA planting zones 6-9.

This pecan tree is a type-2 pollinator and requires a type-1 variety such as the Caddo, Desirable, Oconee, or Pawnee to cross-pollinate and produce nuts. View all our Pecan varieties for sale here.

How to Care For Your Elliot Pecan Tree Bought Online

The Elliot pecan tree is vigorous and strong and features deep taproots and sturdy root growth. The Elliot can be planted in full sun or partial shade. High scab resistance makes it a good choice for home orchard plantings.

Plant the pecan tree in deep, moist, and well-drained soil. It is partially drought tolerant, just be sure to water well during the first few years of planting to establish a strong root system. You may perform a soil test to make sure your mature trees are getting the proper nutrients and it has the correct soil pH.

Spraying of zinc sulfate is essential to some types of pecan trees during the growing season to help fight against zinc deficiency. The Elliot tree is one of the most disease-resistant pecan trees!

A 10-10-10 fertilizer at the tree trunk will help protect against pecan pests. Young pecan trees will benefit greatly from an annual application of fertilizer. Many gallons of water will be needed when growing pecan trees.

Mrs. Penn

I bought two trees. After about three weeks in the ground, one of the trees snapped above the graft point. Looking back, I realized I could've done a better job staking the tree. I contacted PerfectPlantsNursery and offered to pay shipping if they would replace the tree. They were happy to oblige. I received the replacement tree yesterday. It will go in the ground this weekend. Great customer service! Thanks PPN!
