BEAUTIFUL RED BLOOMS & LOADED WITH FRUIT

The Malus Robinson Crabapple Tree boasts bright red flowers and delicious edible fruit!

Early spring weather forms pink buds that burst into red pink flowers that are showy and noticeable. New foliage emerges in a purple tint that eventually fades into bronze green leaves. As the seasons change, the flowering tree’s leaves change to a bright orange color for some beautiful fall foliage. Being a deciduous tree, the leaves will fall to the ground once winter sets in to prepare for dormancy.

In fall and winter, red fruit will form where the Robsinson Crabapple tree’s flowers were and offer winter interest and a food source for local songbirds. The Robinson Crabapple fruit size is 1/2 inch in diameter and can be harvested to turn into jellies or jams. The fragrant flowers and fruit attract butterflies, birds, and bees into your landscape to enjoy.

Occasionally, we’ll get inquiries for hunters to plant the Robinson Crabapple tree for deer in their food plot. It’s a good opportunity to experience some native wildlife in action!

Plant this specimen tree as a focal point in your landscape where it can be seen, in a fruit tree orchard to help pollinate other apple trees, or alongside a street or road for passersby. Crabapples are tolerant of air pollution and a great choice to plant in city parks as well.

ROBINSON CRABAPPLE TREE CARE

Robinson flowering Crabapple tree grows best across the United States in USDA growing zones 4-8 in well draining, slightly acidic soil. Full sun is recommended to help produce a bounty of pretty flowers and edible fruit. Partial shade is tolerated but flower production may be hindered.

Annual pruning, fertilizing, and mulching will help to keep your crab apple growing healthy, tall, and strong. Regular watering is a must during the first year of planting to help establish a strong root system. Once established, the ornamental tree is drought tolerant. Not only are they visually pleasing to the eyes but they are also easy to grow!
