Evergreen and Gorgeous All Year Long In A Compact, Mounded Shape
Radiance Abelia shrubs are a standout hybrid abelia variety that offers attractive, evergreen, multi-colored foliage and wine-red stems. It has a compact, mounded shape that is tailor-made for low hedges, foundation screens, or filing that mid-height plant niche in a garden bed. Abelia Radiance variegated hybrids are included in the group called glossy abelias.
Abelia Radiance shrubs put on a show of slightly fragrant white flowers that will remain on the plant from summer into fall. Typical blooming occurs after most spring-flowering plants have finished, making ‘Radiance’ a perfect transition plant to carry blooms and color from midsummer into autumn.
Burgundy red stems contrast beautifully with the cream and green two-tone foliage. Pollinators will find the flowers attractive all summer and fall.
Landscaping Radiance Abelia Evergreens
A remarkable backdrop for shorter annual flowers, ground covers, or perennials, ‘Radiance’ can also hold its own as an accent planting. Space several across a perennial garden bed and play off their contrasting foliage and bark to add visual depth to your designs.
‘Radiance’ performs well in containers and raised beds as well. Plant it in a raised bed bordering your deck to add a couple of feet of visual screening and provide that feeling of separation. Place the planters in a sunny spot and enjoy.
Low maintenance and easy to grow, ‘Radiance’ is an excellent choice for providing a lot of landscape design without a lot of work. Its dramatic foliage offers relief from the standard basic green shrubbery.
Radiance Abelia Care
Abelia x Grandiflora ‘Radiance’ is hardy to USDA zone 6 and warmer, up to about zone 9. In colder climes, it may lose some foliage and come back again in spring. It tolerates heat well.
Plant your abelia x Grandiflora ‘Radiance’ in full to partial sun. If in a colder region, select a location with some shelter from cold, drying winter winds.
For the best bloom potential and color, sunnier locations are the best. If planted in heavier shade, abelia like ‘Radiance’ can lose their variegation and revert to all green.
Abelia x grandiflora ‘Radiance’ dislikes wet, heavy soils or poor drainage. ‘Radiance’ will grow in soils with a wide range of pH.
Give ‘Radiance’ regular weekly watering. It will need more attention during dry spells or if planted in a container. Running a drip irrigation line is an excellent way to keep a border planting of ‘Radiance’ happy and well-watered with ease.
Provide a slow-release, all-purpose fertilizer as a top dressing around the base of the shrub in the spring.
Abelia Radiance Height And Width
