Colorful shrub with all season interest offers different colors throughout the year

The dwarf Abelia 'Kaleidoscope' plant is a flowering evergreen shrub that displays colorfully variegated leaves year-round. This small perennial shrub is ideal for adding bright color to entryways, sprawling lawns, small patio spaces, commercial landscaping, and recreational areas.

The variegated foliage of the kaleidoscope abelia features an array of bright and glossy leaves. This flowering shrub offers vivid color throughout the year and for every season. In spring, the colors are lighter and brighter with golden reds, greens, and yellows. Through summer and fall, the colors deepen into fiery reds, bright oranges, and intense greens. Throughout winter, the Abelia grandiflora 'Kaleidoscope' cultivar provides brilliant color in an otherwise bare & muted landscape.

In the late summer, kaleidoscope abelia flowers show off with fragrant white blooms that contrast nicely against the darker foliage. The star shaped flowers continue to bloom through summer and into early fall.

How to Use This Abelia in Your Garden

Kaleidoscope abelia does very well in containers and raised beds, and can also go directly into the ground. It can provide a low hedge, shrub border, or does well as an accent piece with other plants in a garden bed.

It also attracts birds and butterflies, is deer resistant, and supports other various wildlife. It is pest and disease resistant.

Abelia Kaleidoscope Care

Kaleidoscope abelia has a moderate growth rate, plus it is easy to take care of and maintain. Growth is tight, even, and compact.

Kaleidoscope glossy abelia grows well in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. It will provide lush color year-round and is considered evergreen within its growing zones. In colder climates, it is considered to be deciduous. Kaleidoscope abelia is cold hardy down to temperatures of -10 degrees Fahrenheit.

This shrub is adaptable but prefers fertile, well-draining soil. Fertilize your abelia in early spring, if needed.

Water the plant deeply after the initial planting and continue to water it weekly for 2 to 3 months thereafter. Once established it needs little to no maintenance.

Though drought and heat-tolerant, kaleidoscope abelia may need to be watered regularly during extreme heat or when grown in containers. Mulch around your plant to encourage moisture retention.

Sunlight Requirements

To optimize color and flower production, this shrub prefers full sun but does well in partial shade also. This abelia not only has beauty but has brawn also. It is drought, frost, and heat tolerant.

Abelia Kaleidoscope Size

The kaleidoscope abelia reaches a height of 2 to 3 feet and a width of 3 to 4 feet.
