Native & Fragrant — White Blooms Attract Pollinators

Alice Oakleaf Hydrangea shrub is a show-stopper! She is a large hydrangea shrub that produces enormous white blooms in the shape of a cone. The cone-shaped blooms are made up of many tiny white blooms, but from a distance, it appears to be one huge flower. The blooms are fragrant and the sweet fragrance attracts a wide array of pollinators.

Alice is in the Oakleaf hydrangea varieties. The shrub leaves are large and lobed and are shaped like the leaves of an oak tree (hence the name). The cone-shaped blooms and shrub leaves are about the same size, giving this hydrangea a very balanced appearance.

Oakleaf Hydrangea 'Alice' provides 4 seasons of interest. The huge conical-shaped blooms appear in late spring just after the leaf buds swell and open. The blooms are white at first, then change to pink during the summer. The heavy blooms droop over to create several layers of white blooms interspersed with layers of dark green leaves. The blooms make long-lasting cut flowers.

The blooms can be left on the hydrangea to dry and provide a dark pinkish-brown dry bloom color on the shrub during the winter after the leaves have fallen off.

Hydrangea Alice will put on a colorful display of fall foliage at the end of summer. After the leaf drop, papery-looking coarse branches will be revealed to add interest to the winter landscape. The combination of dried hydrangea blooms and interesting shrub bark makes a good view of the winter landscape.
