Evergreen Grass for Stunning Color Year Round
Carex Everillo Grass is a striking ornamental grass that has it made in the shade! It offers exceptional color and unique texture wherever it is planted. Add it to porch or patio pots for a vibrant display and exceptional contrast with other plants. This evergreen foliage has consistent color throughout the year and provides excellent ground cover.
Also known as Everillo Sedge Grass or Japanese Sedge, this delightful grass originated in Japan. EverColor® Carex Everillo Sedge is a cold-hardy perennial that is easy to take care of and even easier to love.
Fine narrow leaves begin to erupt in spring and form low-growing grassy mounds of neon foliage. As this grass matures, it displays long ribbons of stunning color that stream from the ground in clumping clusters. Foliage starts out lime-green and ripens to golden yellow. Early summer brings barely noticeable brown flower spikes followed by seeds.
How to Use Sedge Plants in the Garden
Bring luminous color to shady areas in your yard and along walkways. Highlight borders or use Carex Grass Everillo as a ground cover when planted en masse. Spruce up planters and porch pots with bright lime-green color and unique grassy texture. Everillo Carex grows well with other specimen plants and looks lovely when contrasting against the darker foliage of nearby plants. Though this plant is celebrated as an accent plant, it can also be put to work on slopes for erosion control.
Carex Everillo Care Information
Generally, Carex oshimensis Everillo is resistant to pests and disease. However, it may be occasionally susceptible to some pests like aphids, caterpillars, and larvae. Plant in areas with adequate air circulation and good water drainage to prevent fungus. Everillo grass is also deer resistant.
Everillo grows best in USDA hardiness zones 5 through 9.
This plant tolerates partial sun or mostly shade. Ideally, it prefers dappled sunlight throughout most of the day. The hotter the climate, the more shade this plant will desire. Color variation is reliant upon sun exposure. More specifically, sunny locations bring out more yellow, while shady locations deepen the color to more of a brilliant chartreuse color.
Everillo tolerates variable soil types and needs regular watering. Provide evenly moist and well-draining soil for optimal growth. Be sure to prevent waterlogged soil conditions. Fertilize with a slow-release product. Do not over-fertilize. This plant prefers a soil pH of 6 to 7½.
Carex Everillo Spacing & Mature Size
This plant is robust with a moderate to slow-growing spread. EverColor® Everillo Sedge grows to be about 12 to 18 inches tall and 18 inches wide. Space at least 10 to 12 inches apart for a continuous border or when used as a ground cover. Alternatively, space 22 inches apart for a distinction between plants.
Carex Everillo Pruning
In colder climates experiencing harsh winters, it is advisable to cut older grass back in late winter to encourage new spring growth. This grass spreads via its roots and seeds. It is also considered to be non-invasive.
