Juicy Berries Perfect for Home Gardens & Eating Right Off the Bush
The Climax blueberry (Vaccinium Ashei) has it all—early-season ripening, exceptional performance in hot and humid climates, showy fall color and is generally low maintenance.
Blueberries are your go-to superfood due to their high levels of antioxidants. The healing powers of blueberries are widely known. You just can’t beat the flavor of blueberries picked fresh off a plant you grew. Kids love them too!
With the Rabbiteye Climax Blueberry Bush being a heavy berry producer, you will easily grow enough berries to make muffins, smoothies, cakes, bread, pies, or even add them to your morning oatmeal or cereal. Blueberries are also easy to freeze, providing off-season enjoyment as well.
The bloom time for these blueberries is in the early spring growing season. The blueberries of the climax blueberry plant have an exceptionally sweet flavor.
Grow blueberries in the ground with plenty of organic matter, in raised beds or containers, or in your home garden!
The advantage of buying our potted blueberry bushes is their well-developed root systems and branch structure that will have them quickly thriving and producing fruit in your yard. All blueberries require cross-pollination to produce fruit. Not getting any berries? Check out this blog on why your blueberry bush may not be producing.
CLIMAX BLUEBERRY PLANT CARE
Blueberry bush care involves providing your plant with full sun for best fruit production and watering with even moisture. Around 450 chill hours are needed for the ideal fruit set. Chill hours may vary depending on the blueberry variety. Grows best across the United States in USDA hardiness zones 7-9. The Climax Blueberry plant is tolerant of hot, humid conditions and its medium sized berries tend to ripen in late May to early June.
Climax Rabbiteye Blueberries prefer acidic soil and a layer of organic mulch with things like pine bark or peat moss will help if planted in any type of clay soil. If you are unsure about the soil pH… do a soil test! Additionally, it may be a good idea to buy our Blueberry Potting Soil if your soil is not the best ideal blueberry growing condition.
Blueberry Bush Spacing
The Rabbiteye Climax Blueberry bush size is up to 15 feet tall and 10 feet wide in the right planting site. Most bushes are seen as more compact especially if planted in rows like a blueberry farm. The plants will grow to the space you put them in.
You may need to prune your blueberries annually to maintain the desired size and shape. These are shallow rooted plants that do not take much maintenance to keep them thriving. Well drained soil is best to prevent root rot. If you are planting in a container, be sure to choose one with drainage holes.
We suggest purchasing three plants of at least two different varieties for ideal fruit production. Choosing varieties that fruit at different times in the season will extend your berry availability. Rabbiteye blueberry varieties are a great choice for many southern states. Read more about the differences between blueberry bushes.
The Climax Blueberry Bush for sale is a great choice!
Once your Climax Blueberry Bush order is placed, we will ship your plant(s) within seven business days year round unless during the checkout process you request otherwise in the space provided to do so.
Perfect Plants’ shipping specialists carefully package your plants using a proven packaging method that ensures your plants arrive healthy, colorfully alive and ready to flourish. We’ve coined the term ‘upside down box test’ and we do just that; we carefully package so that regardless of the direction your box is handled, it will not harm your precious plant that’s inside.
No shipping process is without a problem from time to time. On rare occasions some plants may experience some of the following during their transit: drooping, minor leaf-loss and/or minimal yellowing/discoloration, minor limb damage, etc. These instances are quite rare, but can happen when shipping plants in boxes.
Plants normally recover within a few weeks after planting. If a damaged box has injured your plant on the inside, please notify us within 5 days of receiving you package(s) by emailing us a photograph of the damage.
We always do our very best to ensure that your plants are packed and shipped in the safest, gentlest and most effective way possible.
Will my plants and trees look like the photographs?
Absolutely! Unlike other online nurseries, our photos are of actual plants and trees we’ve grown here, on our family operated nursery.
Growing our own plants and trees helps to ensure we ship you the best quality plants that are free of pests and diseases.
Your plants and trees may however not ship with flowers on them, like the photographs. This all depends on the time of year you buy your plant or tree. Crape Myrtle trees, for example, only bloom during the summer months, so if you purchase one during the spring or fall, they would ship without flowers. Once planted, your plants will grow and thrive giving you flowers for many years to come!
Pot sizes (commonly referred to in gallons) are shipped in the same size nursery trade pots which may vary in actual volume. Some plants may have been at the approximate pot size listed, but require excess dirt to be removed so that you will not be paying any additional shipping costs. This doesn’t happen very often though.
Our shipping charges are based on the value of your order. Please use the chart below to see what your shipping charge will be.
CLIMAX BLUEBERRY CARE:
The Climax Rabbiteye Blueberry will grow best in an area that is full sun or partial shade. They require soil that is well drained but moist especially throughout the growing season. Acidic, organically rich soil is best for fruit production. Adding peat moss or elemental sulfur can amend the soil. In areas where acidity is harder to achieve, planting in raised beds or pots may more easily facilitate amended soil.
Healthy pruning practices can make a big difference in berry production. It is recommended that the first year’s fruit buds be removed to allow the plant to focus on root structure and vegetative growth. In following years, Blueberries should be pruned annually in late winter or early spring.
Low to the ground growth, rubbing canes, shorter or less productive branches and overly leggy branches should be removed at their base. Lack of vigorous pruning each year will lead to larger number of smaller sized, less flavorful berries. Blueberries need a cross-pollinator to bear fruit. Planting two or more varieties 3 to 6 feet apart is recommended.

Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as your new plant’s root ball and deep enough so that the top of the root ball is equal with the ground level.
Loosen the root ball using a small garden spade or by hand. Breaking smaller outer roots can encourage growth into the new soil, but take care to not damage large primary roots.
Place the plant in the hole and ensure that it is situated evenly upright. Use the excavated soil to fill in around the root ball, using your foot to pack it in firmly. Thoroughly soak with a hose as you fill in the dirt. Take great care to not leave any gaps or air spaces around the root ball as this could kill the plant.
A 2-4 inch layer of mulch is strongly recommended to help retain moisture and discourage weed growth. Apply mulch over the entire planting area but keep away from the stems or trunk by a few inches. Ensure that the plant and surrounding soil is completely soaked with water.
To ensure the proper nutrients are available for the life of your Blueberry Climax bush, our proprietary Perfect Plants Special Blend Soil and a once yearly application of Nutricote Total 360 Fertilizer are great considerations for your new plants!
